Our Automotive Technology program was awarded a $525,000 18-month grant to develop and grow an EV program at the college. This grant is funded by the Illinois Community College Board's Rev Up EV initiative, and it expires on June 30, 2025. We also applied for additional funding last December and were awarded an additional $313,900 18-month grant that expires on June 30, 2026. The funds from these grants have been utilized to purchase five brand new EVs, EV components, EV test equipment, installation of two additional Level 2 EVSE charging equipment, and curriculum development. We are currently piloting our second offering of a new Electric Vehicle Service and Repair course. It has been approved for credit and will be offered as a credit course beginning in the Fall 2025 semester.

Our Diesel Program was launched in the Fall of 2023. As with all new programs, our first year was full of twist and turns. With great dedication our Program Director, Josh Mauldin, set out to spread the word about our program. High schools and career centers were eager to learn more, and students became excited about the prospect of a local diesel program. Local industry was also eager to see another technical college joining the push to bring more skilled technicians to the work force. During the first year our biggest challenge was finding local companies that could donate training materials. Many companies wanted technicians, but did not immediately see the value in investing material into a program that was not yet established. This is where WrenchWay solved our biggest challenge. We posted a request for donated material and within days a local shop responded. This became our first and strongest partnership to-date. They provided us a donation of 4 day-cab truck tractors!! With that our program show-cased to the rest of the industry how an investment in us can benefit them in the long run. Investing in a technical skills program is an investment in the workforce that will one day be fueling the industry. The Fall of 2024 marked our 1-year anniversary and so much has changed. Because of the interest generated both from local high schools and local industry, we were able to launch a second cohort of students and now offer morning and afternoon classes. With the investments (donations) we have received from local industry partners we have developed more effective training curriculum. Now as we look forward, we will be graduating our first class of students this summer and continuing to build upon the foundations we have laid over the last year. Our program continues to hold to the standard that we will empower our students to learn the skills not just for the jobs of today, but for the jobs of the future.
