Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
All shop bays and offices are heated to keep everyone comfortable during the colder months. While only the offices are air-conditioned, the shop bays are well-ventilated for the summer season.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
Our team is currently small, with 3 to 5 mechanics, but we’re growing. We’re actively looking for dedicated professionals to join us as we expand, creating more opportunities for collaboration and growth.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Our work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. You’ll have a 30-minute lunch break to recharge during your shift.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
We ensure our technicians have access to the best tools for the job. This includes advanced diagnostic equipment like Cummins INSITE, Volvo Tech Tool, CAT Electronic Technician, PACCAR ESA, and Jaltest Commercial Vehicle scanners. We also provide hydraulic lifts, jacks, air compressors, refrigerant machines, pneumatic tools, plasma cutters, MIG welders, bench grinders, parts washers, PPE, repair databases, and consumables. In short, if you need it to get the job done, we’ve got it.
What type of break room facility is provided?
Our break room is located upstairs, offering a unique view of two of our shop bays. It’s equipped with a refrigerator and microwave for your convenience, and the front office has a water dispenser with hot and cold options.
How many bays does your shop have?
We operate six bays in total, with three garage doors providing access to keep the workflow efficient.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
On average, we handle about 62 service orders per month, keeping us busy while maintaining a manageable pace for our team.
What is your parts ordering process?
Our parts department handles all parts ordering for approved jobs. While some parts may need to be special ordered, we maintain a well-stocked inventory of common items to minimize downtime and keep jobs moving smoothly.
What is your policy on side work?
Side work for current or prospective clients is not permitted, ensuring a consistent and professional standard for all services performed under our name.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
Our shop combines a tight-knit team environment with a focus on quality tools and an organized workflow. We believe in maintaining a clean and efficient space where everyone feels supported and equipped to do their best work.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
At Big Rig Fixer, we encourage our team members to stay sharp by learning on the job and through available resources. While we don’t have formal in-house training programs, we support technicians in pursuing certifications and attend manufacturer workshops when possible. We believe in growing together and are happy to share knowledge within the team.

At Big Rig Fixer, we’re all about teamwork. Senior techs often share their expertise with newer team members, creating a hands-on learning environment. Mentorship here is informal but effective, with everyone pitching in to help each other grow and succeed.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We’re proud to support our community in small but meaningful ways. From sponsoring local events to offering free safety checks for drivers, we stay connected to the people we serve. Our focus is on building strong relationships with both our customers and neighbors.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We’re always happy to encourage the next generation of technicians. While we don’t have formal partnerships, we’ve hosted students for shop visits and are open to speaking with tech schools about career opportunities. We believe it’s important to show young people the value of skilled trades.

We do not perform background checks or drug screenings. However, we may contact your references to gain insight into your work ethic and past experience.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Yes, we conduct a hands-on skill assessment. This typically involves completing a small repair or diagnostic task under supervision to assess your technical abilities and approach to problem-solving.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
We aim to provide feedback within a week of your in-person interview, whether it’s an offer or a decision to move in another direction.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Our hiring process is typically efficient and straightforward. On average, it takes about one to two weeks from application submission to the final decision, depending on scheduling and the time needed to check references.

Apprentice Technician
Pay Range: $18.00 - $22.00/hour
Entry-level role focused on learning and assisting senior technicians.
Diesel Mechanic I (Junior Technician)
Pay Range: $22.00 - $26.00/hour
Technician with basic knowledge and skills, capable of handling routine repairs under supervision.
Diesel Mechanic II (Mid-Level Technician)
Pay Range: $26.00 - $32.00/hour
Technician with solid experience, able to perform diagnostics and handle most repairs independently.
Diesel Mechanic III (Senior Technician)
Pay Range: $32.00 - $38.00/hour
Highly skilled technician with extensive experience, capable of handling complex diagnostics and major repairs.
Shop Foreman
Pay Range: $38.00 - $45.00/hour
Leadership role responsible for overseeing shop operations, mentoring technicians, and ensuring quality control.
