Top Shop Challenge: How are you planning to support your team’s professional development in 2025?

Audi Central Houston and our parent company Sonic Automotive are fully engaged in training. We pay techs for their online training here or at home as well as pay while out of town at hands on training at Audi technician training facilities as far away as California, Massachusetts or Audi headquarters in Michigan.

Top Shop Challenge: What are a couple of things you'd like to highlight that happened last month?

We ended the busiest month of the year with 42 techs and 3 shop managers. We have 5 in express lube, 3 trainees and the rest full line techs. We flagged 5627 hours in December and wrote 2097 repair orders. Techs received their annual longevity bonuses which is always a great time of year. This is based on annual hours flagged and years of service.

Automotive Program Updates!

Our ASE accreditation has recently been renewed and we have built partnerships with Audi and Subaru to offer manufacturers training to eligible students at no additional cost. We have also recently updated our curricula for HEV and Lt. Duty Diesel Engines, HVAC, Basic Electrical, Brakes, and Steering and Suspension. In addition to several vehicles, we also recently received an ADAS machine, which we are in the process of setting up. Everything that we do at OTC is aimed a creating a better student experience and graduating a more prepared and well rounded technician!

Meet Kerry Henshaw, Service Manager at Utility Trailer of Dallas. Kerry started in the parts warehouse 12 years ago and has since filled numerous roles from counter sales to outside service writer. He's performed at a high level in each role, and he understands trailer service and repairs from both the parts and service side. Kerry has a great rapport with his team and our core customers.
