Under The Hood
Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Not yet, but both heating and air conditioning systems are currently being installed. The dealership recognizes the importance of climate control for technician comfort and productivity, so upgrades are in progress.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
You'd be joining a well-rounded team that includes 3 Service Advisors, 1 Shop Manager, 1 Service Manager, and a total of 15 Technicians. It’s a supportive environment with a good mix of experience levels and specialties.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
The main shop operates Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Our Quick Lane service is open those same weekdays, but also includes Saturday hours from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Shift times can vary slightly depending on the department.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Technicians are expected to bring their own personal toolsets. However, the shop supplies all specialty tools that are needed for specific repairs or diagnostics. These are available for shared use and are kept in a designated area.
What type of break room facility is provided?
There is an air-conditioned break room shared with the dealership staff. It’s located in the sales department area and also serves as a meeting and conference space. The room is kept clean and includes seating, tables, and basic amenities.
How many bays does your shop have?
We have a total of 28 bays, including one equipped with an alignment machine. This allows us to handle a wide range of repair and maintenance jobs efficiently.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
On average, the shop processes around 580 repair orders per month. This includes all departments combined and reflects a steady volume of work throughout the year.
What is your parts ordering process?
Technicians place orders directly through our Parts Department. If a customer requires an estimate, the Service Advisor will provide the Parts Department with the Repair Order, and they will handle the ordering process from there. This helps ensure accuracy and efficiency in sourcing the right parts.
What is your policy on side work?
Side work is strictly prohibited and considered theft from the dealership. We take this policy seriously to maintain fairness and integrity in the workplace.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Yes, we do—training is offered through the Ford STARS program.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Our shop operates at a fast pace, and career advancement depends largely on each individual's skill set and knowledge. For those with limited experience, we typically start them at the QL level. As they complete training courses through the STARS program—which range from six months to over a year—they can move up quickly based on their performance and dedication.
Can you describe your performance review process?
We monitor technician performance daily based on hours turned. Formal performance reviews are conducted every 90 days for new hires, and then annually for all employees.
What type of safety training is required?
All safety training is conducted through UKG and Vera Suite. Additionally, we hold in-person safety training sessions every six months for select courses.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
If a tech is an Asset Student, their schedule alternates between eight weeks at school and eight weeks at our shop. During their time with us, they are paired with a technician who specializes in their current area of study for hands-on mentoring.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We host an annual company car show each April and regularly participate in community service activities such as volunteering at animal shelters and roadside cleanups.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
Yes. One of our Senior Master Technicians is an alumnus of Double Springs Tech School and refers students to us. We also participate in dealer days and have recently partnered with the school to launch the Ford ACE program.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
We do phone screens before setting up the initial interview.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
The in-person interview includes a meeting with the GM or owner. We review the applicant's background, discuss their areas of interest or specialization, and talk about how they became involved in the automotive field.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Yes, we conduct background checks and drug screenings.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
No, we do not conduct a formal skill assessment.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Typically, within two days.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Usually between one and two weeks.
Diesel/Transmission Technician
Pay Range: $60.70 - $72.70/hour
As a technician on the flat rate hourly pay plan, your pay is based on how many flat rate hours (FRHs) you turn each week. The base pay starts at $60.70 per FRH and can go up to $72.70 per FRH if you have a Senior Master Certification and average over 70 FRHs per month. To qualify for this plan, you must have been with Long-Lewis for at least 12 months, be fully certified in diesel or transmission work by any of our OEMs, and be willing to take all related jobs. You’ll be paid weekly based on the FRHs you turn, and any monthly incentives will be paid by the 15th of the following month. Incentives & Guarantees: There’s a monthly incentive plan that can add up to $10 per FRH retroactively based on your average FRHs for the month (e.g., 40.1–50 FRHs = $4 extra per FRH). You’re guaranteed an average of 25.5 FRHs per week if you clock at least 40 hours per week. If you don’t meet your FRHs for the month, the company will make up the difference, but only if you meet the time-clock requirement. You can also sell back PTO (up to 25% each quarter) at your current hourly rate. If you choose to work with a tech assistant, you’ll be responsible for 100% of their wages for the hours they actually work, but their PTO and benefits are covered by the company.
Service Technician
Pay Range: $35.00 - $72.00/year
We offer competitive pay—earn up to $72 per flat rate hour based on your certifications and experience—plus weekly pay guarantees for added stability. Enjoy up to 5 weeks of PTO with a cash-out option, no weekend work, and flexible scheduling to fit your lifestyle. Our monthly productivity bonus program allows technicians to earn up to an additional $2.00 per flat rate hour (FRH) turned, retroactive to the first hour once a threshold is met. If you average between 35.1 and 45 FRH in a month, you’ll earn an extra $0.50 per hour. For averages between 45.1 and 55 FRH, the bonus increases to $1.25 per hour. And for those who exceed 55 FRH in a month, you'll receive the full $2.00 bonus per hour turned. We also offer a flat rate guarantee to provide financial stability. If you clock at least 40 hours per week over the course of a month, you're guaranteed a monthly average of 25.5 FRH per week, based on the previous month’s total hours turned. For example, if you clocked 40 hours each week for four weeks, you would be guaranteed 102 FRH (25.5 hours x 4 weeks). If you actually turned 93.5 FRH, you would be paid the difference—8.5 hours—to ensure you hit your guaranteed rate. This reconciliation is processed and paid on or before the 15th of the following month. Paid time off increases with tenure. After one year of full-time employment, you’ll receive five vacation days, five sick/personal days, and six paid holidays. After two years, your vacation increases to ten days, while sick/personal and holiday time remain the same. Employees who reach ten years of service are rewarded with 15 vacation days, along with the standard five sick/personal days and six holidays. Additionally, we offer a PTO sell-back program for added flexibility. You may sell back vacation, sick/personal, holiday, and other PTO at your current hourly rate, based on eight hours per day. You can sell back up to 25% of your earned PTO each quarter, giving you the option to turn time off into additional income if you choose.
