Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Gustafson's in located very close to the beach and the open shop temperatures are moderate all year. We do have patio heaters and swamp coolers appropriate for the seasons.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
In the mechanical service segment of Gustafson's the team count including service advisor specialists, reception specialists, technician specialists is 18+ In the collision repair segment, the count is 20+ In the satellite shop which is mechanical service only, the count is 8
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
The main shop is open 6 days and the specialists work 5 day shifts. Everyone has Sunday off. Overtime is available. Shop is open for the guests 7:30 to 6:00 and specialists have 8 hour shifts with overtime available.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
AC (134a + 1234yf), Battery equipment, Smoke equipment, Lab Scope, Strut equipment, welders, frame equipment, fork lift, computers on every workstation, late model Hunter tire change and balance equipment, new brake lathe, Hawkeye alignment, lots more great stuff.
What type of break room facility is provided?
Break room is in the training center and sports a tournament shuffleboard table, darts, high top tables, classroom chairs and a 100" TV monitor. Of course refrigeration for food storage and air conditioning.
How many bays does your shop have?
Mechanical shop 20 lifts, 24 work stalls Collision shop 30 work stalls and 15 lifts Satellite shop 9 lifts 12 work stalls
How many repair orders do you average per month?
Mechanical 600 RO's per month average Body Shop processes 200 Repairs each month Satellite Shop 200 per month average
What is your parts ordering process?
Dedicated parts tech at each shop and electronic ordering with fast track delivery
What is your policy on side work?
Personal cars on your day off. COD parts purchases. No extended family or friends without a repair order.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Gustafson's supports a learning environment in mechanical and collision. Well equipped Training Center on site and training is required for all team members.

Can you describe your performance review process?
Gustafson's operates on the EOS leadership platform and performance is monitored every pay cycle. Alignment with core values and core focus occurs daily.
What type of safety training is required?
All members are safety trained for fire, evacuation, EV specialists are safety trained for electric vehicle service.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
At Gustafson's we foster a learning environment and many of the specialists are also mentors. We have the local HBHS auto shop class in our training center. The best students become interns, apprentices and mentees.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
Gustafson's supports the local school sports and arts, the police associations and youth training.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
Yes, see above plus we have a training manager who participates in the advisory boards for the local schools.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes. We like to know as much as possible about anyone interested in joining our team.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
Interviews start with a shop walk to share the size of the operations. An honest conversation with our people people about you and your goals.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Depending on the role.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Most roles are best judged with trial days. You get to live the role and help us determine if you are a fit.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Depending on the candidate pool and how many applicants are trying out. Never longer than necessary. Anyone who does not make the cut this round is considered for future employment. Additionally, we may be able to help the right candidate with employment elsewhere.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Again depending on the candidate pool size. Not too long in reality.
