Just last month, we had Josh Arnold on our podcast, Beyond the Wrench, and he explained that when working on engine repairs, he likes to listen to audiobooks to maximize his time working and learning at the same time. If you missed it, you can check out the full episode here: https://wrenchway.com/blog/improving-habits-as-a-flat-rate-technician/

My name is Connor Yamamoto, I have worked in the car industry for about 8 years. I worked in car sales first and then was a shop porter and then learned to be an entry level technician changing oil and simple jobs. Now I'm a full on technician doing all sorts of different jobs and learning lots every day to improve myself.
I have always loved cars, ever since I was a little kid. As I grew older my curiosity and knowledge grew, until I found my self working as a technician!
I wish the public would understand how difficult it is to diagnose cars at certain times. A seemingly simple noise issue can be a very complicated ordeal and its hard to get enough time from the customers. Many people assume we can just plug diagnostic tools into the cars and it just gives us the answer, that is not the case. We should get the benefit of the doubt that we are doing our absolute best to figure these cars out as quick as possible.
The best thing about my shop is my co-workers and my boss. The environment we have at the shop is very enjoyable and fun, which is not always the case in this industry! It makes all the difference in the world because we are here everyday.
