The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) claims that the average pay for automotive technicians is $46,970 per year and diesel technicians earn $54,360 annually. However, our extensive network of over 1,000 shops on WrenchWay, along with numerous industry connections, tells a different story. If you’re an auto or diesel technician, we invite you to help us get better data around the earning potential of technicians by taking the 2024 Technician Pay Survey. Individual responses are anonymous, and you will be automatically entered in a drawing to win some awesome prizes. Take the Survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/3Y5J7LL Do you think this BLS data is “BS”?
Technician
I do now believe it's bs, but there's a lot of factors that go into those stats also. "Auto Technician " is vague and group together a lot of types of us all in one. First year to senior tech all add into those stats. Also, covid forced many shops to hand out massive raises past few years. Sadly it took a pandemic to get many shops to give raises and more benefits in order to not lose the techs they have. I've talked to other techs and most within past few years either received huge bonuses , extra benefits, weekends finally off, or huge raises, including myself when I went to quit 2 yrs ago.
Educator
Does not account for overtime and weekends or even how a company may pay for work turned out. Also exactly who did they get their information from and what part of the US, must have been the part with the lowest cost of living, and even still the wages are higher.
Technician
pay is only relevant really when the work load isnt skewed towards certain techs, at least thats how i feel having worked in shops with neutral dispatching and selective.
