I recently had a tech reach out to me after they learned what the Wrench Turner’s Wellness Survey does and they asked what should and shouldn’t be included in their own value as a tech on the shop floor. One of the items on the leadership side that isn’t taken into account enough, from a 30,000 foot view, is cost of living. Though it should not be part of a technicians wage calculation, leadership does need to be empathetic to it. From the technician side, you need to know what the cost of living in an area is, to understand whether you can afford to work at that facility, or not. j.

I don't subscribe to the cost of living to wage ratio that much. I have a whole story for it. The demand for technicians is too high right now for that. I say go to the classifieds and see what the demand is. If you're making a job post first look at your market and see what the demand is.
