Just last month, we had Josh Arnold on our podcast, Beyond the Wrench, and he explained that when working on engine repairs, he likes to listen to audiobooks to maximize his time working and learning at the same time. If you missed it, you can check out the full episode here: https://wrenchway.com/blog/improving-habits-as-a-flat-rate-technician/

The guys are always coming up with fun stuff to do at the shop that is not all about working. This month they added the Golf Put Challenge. For anyone who gets a hole in one, the shop buys doughnuts for everyone.

No one will remember that you fixed that car, motorcycle, piece of equipment, generator or that boat next month. No one will remember that you called around everywhere to help the parts department find that part to get your customer out a week from now. No one will remember that you worked 55 hours a week for years to support your customers a year from now. No one will remember that you always kept your bays clean a week after you leave. What was your legacy? Ultimately, deep down, we do what we do to support our lives outside the job. Just like any other person, in any other position, on the planet. We come to work to make money, to support the things we love to do and the people we enjoy our lives with. For some that is plenty to fulfill our desires to be successful. For others that's a byproduct of doing what we love. They say ", The measure of a leader is how many other leaders they create." As senior techs and leaders in our shops we can apply that same thought to what we do daily. How many techs have you had a meaningful impact on? Senior techs, how many times have you been doing something and you specifically remember the tech that taught you that? All the time right? That is part of that person's legacy. When they taught that to you, it lives on, in you.
