In a recent WrenchWay poll, we were shocked to find that 31% of technicians said they never have one-on-one meetings with their manager. In this video, Jay discusses these results, the importance of one-on-one meetings, and offers advice for managers.
Technician
I left Phil Wright Autoplex in Russellville, AR in large part because the manager promised to meet with me (and I even offered to buy him lunch just trying to sweeten the pot) but always had an excuse why he couldn't. I then had a pay period (by monthly) where I was at 15 hours the day before the period closed, and I made the decision to move on. That manager was pretty sore when I told him I was leaving. But I did something there that I had never done before in that I tried to meet with him, tried to hash out the issues, tried to offer solutions to make the shop better, most of which would have cost nothing. He's in a world of hurt now because he only has one trained technician left as one retired and I left. It all could have been prevented by sitting down with me (at my cost, no less) and hearing me out and communicating with me. Oh well. I'm in a much better place now.
