Both sides of our Audi shops have multiple large ceiling fans that run throughout the day in order to keep the shop cool. On hot days, we will also close the bay doors in order to keep the excess heat out.

Technicians, service managers, parts managers, service advisors. I’d really like to share with you what I’ve personally found to be one the most significant quality of life improvements throughout my career. That being online parts catalogs. I’ve had my own access to repairlinkshop and Napa PROLink for a few years now and it’s been a game changer. How many times has a technician come to you and explained that they need “the evap hose that comes off of the purge valve, runs down the frame rail, wraps around the subframe, comes through the body, then back out….” You know what I mean one of those parts. All the while they come back a few hours later needing additional components such as fasteners, clips, etc. that they thought would come with the part, but didn’t, as a result of not seeing a breakdown themselves. Our industry is producing the most advanced vehicles it ever has all the while trying to meet customers utmost highest expectations. Do yourselves a favor and give yourself every opportunity to succeed. I’m not suggesting this should take the place of parts personnel, because by no means does it. Note: I’m not being paid to promote any online parts catalogs. This is strictly my thoughts as I know a lot of shops are still not taking advantage of these features.
Technician
As a Honda Tech I’ve had access to our parts catalog and locator for over 10 yrs and it’s a huge benefit vs trying to explain to parts or wait, and have to show them what you need. My preference is to have access and pick what I need and hand them a list for prices if needed and who has it. I’m not replacing parts personal, just speeding up my productivity. They still have to order, bill or pull the parts.
