The new Q5 and A5 models launched with new technology. When a new model launches, we are in launch phase and have to contact Audi before proceeding with any repairs - big or small. Learning the new technology is challenging and exciting.

Which would you prefer when it comes to tools?
@michael dover - I’m curious as to what makes you curious, haha. In all seriousness, this is consistent with that we’ve been hearing for a while now. A lot of Techs still prefer to own their own tools. We’ve polled this a few different ways over the years and it always seems to come back similar to this. I’ve reached out to Techs in the past but would be interested in hearing from techs that commented on the post to hear their take.
Oh and voting that the shop provide tools doesn't mean you cannot purchase your own tools and if anything, saves the company money once the community box is maxed out, therfore more revenue for wages. I have worked in shops of both kinds that have and have not provided tools. Provided tools are definitely better. My tools stay at home. Work tools stay at work.
Educator
I recently moved from being a tech to teaching auto shop at a high school, was so glad I was able to take my tools to my new job....the 1st lesson I taught was basic tools. You would be surprised how many of these kids don't know the difference in needle nose pliers compared to slip joint pliers. The schools tool inventory is lacking, working on that, but if I hadn't had my own tools would have been using pictures instead of being able to show them and put the tool in their hand.
