"Nick came to my house to perform a computer update recall. I called him Saturday afternoon because my truck wouldn't start and I had few lights on the dash. He was off Monday but still came to my house and found a blown fuse to the ignition. Got me up and going. Thank you!"

What do feel are the root causes of the technician shortage in the auto industry?
Technician
It's not just one issue, it's a combination of issues. I picked ownership/management because I believe that is the biggest issue, but it is by no means the only issue. Pay, benefits, and OEM time cutting transformational cost savings initiatives are also to blame.
Educator
Car dealers are not recruiting students li8ke AG and Industrial dealers. AG and Industrial are coming to schools, paying for students education and paying them much more than an auto dealer in most cases. I have found that owners and managers at auto dealers still look or think technicians are a necessary evil and a dime a dozen which isn't the case at all. Car dealers have taken advantage of technicians for the last 30 years at least.
