The kids pulled the lift kit off of an old project truck and transferred it over to better chassis that was donated by a community member. The still need to adjust the front arm length to set the caster and wheel base, mount a rear shock, and make a few brake lines. Fingers crossed it should be moving and stopping by the end of next week!

Entry level technicians. Depending on your level of schooling and training, current experience level, and variety of what you repair (or even lack of variety). You may find that your schooling and training doesn’t doesn’t always help you properly repair the car, truck, or equipment you’re working with. Maybe you don’t even understand the fault that you’re being asked to repair. Theory & operation is one of the most overlooked and underused sections of a service manual. It’s one of the most important as well. Ask yourself, is it realistic to be able to repair a system if you don’t know how it operates? Clearly not. The direct purpose of the theory & operation section of service information is designed to equip you with the knowledge to understand the function and use of the system you are working with. As a tech if you are equipped with proper information it will become much easier to determine what’s wrong vs what’s right to save you valuable time.
Technician
Description and operation as gm calls it, and the wiring schematic are the two things I need to diagnose anything. If I know how it is supposed to work, I know where the components are, and I know how they are connected (schematic) I can figure it out and fix it.
Technician
Wiring diagrams don’t always win. There’s plenty of circumstances where you may attempt to test the circuit. And find a missing power and ground. This is where theory and operations comes in to verify if a computer controlled circuit you’re work with is controlled by the driver activating power and ground. Or if the circuit is even being commanded to operate.
