Something I don’t think is talked about enough is working on non-automotive applications. I originally started on automotive then moved to equipment like forklifts, golf carts, scissor lifts etc. i enjoyed it much more than automotive bc it was hourly and got to be out on the road. If you have a good personality and don’t like working flat rate, equipment work may be for you!

Fantastic Advisory Committee Meeting earlier this week at Madison Memorial High School. We’re struggling with the automotive programs in Madison. Some of it comes down to finding teachers, some of it comes down to getting an administration that cares enough about CTE programs enough to take it seriously. Many say they do but their actions speak far differently. We see a very similar thing all across the country and it is incredibly frustrating. Memorial is the one High School in Madison that currently has an automotive program and we’re working hard to get the 3 others in the district that have facilities and have had programs in the past back up and rolling. We’re lucky that we’ve got an incredible instructor at Madison Memorial that really cares about the others. Thank you, Miles Tokheim! Brent Kindred, CSD and the WATDA Foundation are doing a great job pushing the school districts to be better. Robert Jordan has some great, innovative ideas that could have a big impact. Suzette Harrison as well. Many others have joined the conversation and it’s fun to see people working together for a common goal. Sometimes it feels like it takes forever but we keep making progress. Very appreciative of all of you folks that show up for these meetings as it’s incredibly important to the future of our industry.
