We had the pleasure of having Jon Wenger from Subaru of America stop by to recognize our Express Advisor, Andrew Mallea, as one of the National runners-up for a Love Promise award. This award goes to service employees who exemplify the very best in customer service and commitment to the Subaru Love Promise pillars. Andrew is one of only a handful in the nation that earned this recognition. He received a personalized Apple Air iPad as a Thank-You from Subaru of America. Thank you Andrew for all that you do!

April 1, 2023 marked 35 years since my dad opened the business. January 14th, 2023, we celebrated a little early as something special for everyone that had just been through a grueling winter tire season.

The most recent Team event! Friday after work Paint Balling! We closed the shop up at 3:00 on Friday and drove east of town to High Desert Scenario. What an amazing venue! We battled to raise the team flag in the center of the ghost town. We do multiple team events a year to keep the Vibe going strong!

One thing that's important to remember is that the automotive industry has totally changed since a lot of the experienced technicians began their careers. It's not just the technology and machinery that has changed drastically, but the whole process of attending school and obtaining tools has gotten to be a lot bigger of an investment. Offering real, tangible support is key to attracting more youth to the trades industry. Tuition support or reimbursement, paid training and certification, or financial support starting their toolbox make a huge difference. Showing that you're willing to invest in their skillset is crucial.

Vehicles have reached a point that kids are not getting to work on them in the garage with Dad anymore except for maybe an oil change. Sometimes Dad isn't even around. At this point I think that it is critical that they get exposure at the high school level. That's the earliest Auto Shop is offered, This being my 1st year as a teacher I've taken in anything that anyone has offered. We are currently getting ready to do a head gasket on 2006 Toyota Camry, we have re-sealed oil pans, done a ton of oil changes, brake jobs, things like that. The main problem we run into, is on a limited budget, tools and some specialty machines that it would be great to be able to familiarize the kids with.

1. Starting pay equivalent to the amount of skill and training needed in the field. inflation and cost of trade schools do not make it easy for someone to invest the amount of time and energy to still get offered what they could make in fast food. 2. Tuition reimbursement-- many of my students really perk up when they see this. 3. Build relationships with your local trade schools. High School and Post Secondary programs in your community will notice the shops and companies who have an established presence on their campus. Branding and donation of training aids is a big deal. 4. make a BIG deal out of your training program if you have a good one. Seeing a laid out training and advancement program will really build the confidence of a new tech considering your company.
