Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated. We do have fans.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Normally we have about 10 people on our team including service and parts.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. We are not open on Saturday.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Ford diagnostic tools(IDS/FDRS), Alignment Machine, Tire Machine, Tire Balancer

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a lunch room in the front of the building. It has a fridge and microwave.

How many bays does your shop have?

8 bays

How many repair orders do you average per month?

Roughly 400-500/month.

What is your parts ordering process?

Our parts department will order parts daily and try to get them here same day or next day. The faster the parts arrive... the faster the jobs get completed.

What is your policy on side work?

If it does not impact the dealerships profits or customer base it is of no concern. Soliciting customers at work for side work is a terminable offense.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer Ford training as part of the career path. We will cover the cost of the training, the transportation, the hotel, food, and fuel for going. We believe in bettering our technicians via OEM training at no cost to the tech.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

As a technician grows and develops his training it will open him/her up to new types of work to be dispatched to and as the skill levels with Ford increase the compensation for the tech can increase also.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We use an annual performance review to allow the technician and the manager to discuss growth opportunities for both the technician and the dealership.

What type of safety training is required?

All standard workplace and OSHA training is required. We use a company called ComplyNet that will teach the incoming employees our basic policies and procedures at time of onbaording.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our techs have a very good foundation in team work. When one is having an issue... another tech will come over and put him on the proper path for the repair. In this Service Department we take care of one another in moving forward.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We sponsor local ball games, parades, golf outings, and anything our customers are involved in. It's important to be involved locally with our business.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are involved with some local area vocational schools to try to recruit some fresh technicians coming into the workforce.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We do not normally phone screen applicants. Often we encourange a face to face interview in order to get the best impression of the applicant... and to give the applicant the best impression of us.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

In person interviews normally entail work history, skill set questions, past work environment questions, equipment familiarity, and getting to know the applicant personally.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes we do.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Normally within a maximum of two weeks an applicant will know if they have been considered or rejected.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

A streamlined transition can happen within one week so long as all onboarding steps have been completed.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $60,000.00 - $150,000.00/year

Flat rate pay structure based on tenure and certification.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $40,000.00 - $75,000.00/year

Flat rate pay structure based on tenure and certification.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $30,000.00 - $60,000.00/year

Flat rate pay structure or hybrid structure based on tenure and certification.

Lube Technician Pay Range: $12.00 - $15.00/hour

Hourly pay structure based on tenure and certification.

Health Insurance Offered
You have the opportunity to enroll in one of two medical plans through Anthem. Each plan offers in- and out-of-network coverage, but you will pay less for services when you see in-network providers. Our policy covers routine eye exams and other procedures, and provides specified dollar amounts or discounts for the purchase of eyeglasses and contact lenses. This benefit is offered on a voluntary basis.
Retirement Plan Offered
York Automotive offers a competitive retirement plan benefit. Employees that participate in our 401(k) through Vanguard will receive a matching contribution from York Automotive. Employees will receive a 100% match on the first 3%, and a 50% match on the next 2%. An employee contributing 5% will receive a 4% match from the company. This match is 100% vested from day one of participation in the plan.
Sick Leave Offered
All employees are given 40 hours of Personal Time Off (PTO) after 90 days of employment. The annual 40-hour allotment resets each year on the anniversary of your hire date.
Vacation Offered
Vacation is offered after 1 year of employment. 1 year- 5 days 3 years- 10 days 5 years- 15 days **Tier based, not accumulated. Vacation time is issued on an anniversary date basis.
Paid Holidays Offered
Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day when they fall on a working day.
ST / LT Disability Offered
Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, and Critical Illness coverage can be purchased on a voluntary basis through Guardian Insurance.
Life Insurance Offered
York Automotive Group provides all full time employees with $15,000 in Basic Life/AD&D Insurance. Additional Voluntary Life Insurance can be purchased for employees, their spouse, and their children. This coverage is provided through Guardian Insurance.
