Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Both of our shops are heated. Our shops are not air conditioned by large industrial floor fans are provided for each technician during warmer months. During warmer months WE provide our technicians with unlimited chilled drinks and water at no cost.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

WE currently have a service team of one (1) service manager, three (3) service foremen, three (3) service advisors and twenty five (25) technicians. Our goal is grow our service business and be at thirty (30) technicians by 4/1/2023.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop Hours are Monday-Friday 0700-2330, Saturday 0700-1530. We offer both first and second shift opportunities 5 days per week, 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week, overtime as needed.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

WE have extensive tool rooms in both shop operations. WE provide all of the OEM required "specialty" tools and equipment as well as large air guns, jack stands, floor jacks, clutch jacks, transmission jacks, presses, overhead cranes, mobile cranes, forklifts and and all other tools required for safe quality repairs in a heavy duty truck and trailer repair facility.

What type of break room facility is provided?

WE provide our employees with a heated and air conditioned breakroom complete with refrigerator/freezer, microwave ovens, sink, vending machine, and comfortable chairs and tables.

How many bays does your shop have?

WE have two repair shops on site. Shop 1 has 18 repair bays plus a wash bay and new truck preparation bay, Shop 2 has 10 repair bays. Each is managed by an assigned service foreman.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

WE currently average about 500+ repair orders per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

Technicians order parts through our dealer operating system KARMAK FUSION. Parts are delivered to the technician's bay by one of the assigned back counter parts people.

What is your policy on side work?

WE does have a policy concerning side work. Our policy is our employees are not allowed to work on any customers or potential customers heavy duty trucks, trailers or applicable equipment.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

WE are a huge believer in additional education, training and development of our technicians in particular and all employees in general. WE endeavor to provide our technicians with as much on the job, on line and off site training as possible. WE utilize all the educational opportunities and certification programs provided by our OEM partners Mack Trucks, Volvo Trucks, Cummins Engine and Allison Transmissions. ALL this training is provided at no charge to the technician. ALL of our technicians are assigned an OEM TRAINING PATH to ensure their professional education and development are being completed as required.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

WE offer our employees unlimited opportunities for career growth and development. A large percentage of our front line managers, sales people, senior managers and executives started out with the company as technicians, warehouse workers and parts delivery workers. WE have 26 full service dealership locations and growing daily so there are always opportunities for employees to grow their careers. Can you describe your performance review process?

WE review ALL technicians on both a monthly and annual basis. The monthly review takes place between the technician and their immediate supervisor (service foreman) to discuss the technician's individual performance for the previous month compared to company service metrics and stands. The annual review takes place between the technician, their immediate supervisor (service foreman) and the service manager. Both of these reviews are designed to assess the technician's performance compared to company service metrics and standards, determine what training and education the technician needs in the future and ensure the technician is on the correct training path for their future career growth and development.

What type of safety training is required?

WE have monthly scheduled safety meetings & facility inspections with assigned safety teams. ALL of our technicians are forklift trained and qualified. WE endeavor to provide a clean, safe, organized and productive work environment for all of our employees.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

WE want new technicians regardless of skill level to be able to assimilate into our organization as quickly and smoothly as possible. WE normally pair a new technician with one of our experienced seasoned A or B level technician for a period of 30-60 days. WE encourage all our technicians to ask if there is something they do not know are are unsure of concerning anything. WE endeavor to foster an atmosphere of shared cooperation and learning for our entire service operations.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

WE participate in business related activities. WE are active members of the Tennessee Trucking Association and some of our local managers have served on committees and panels related to this organization. WE are also members and participants in local chambers of commerce and other business related organizations.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

WE are on the board of advisors for TCAT (Tennessee College of Applied Technology) for their Diesel Repair, Automotive Repair, Collision Repair and Truck Driving education programs. WE are also on the board of advisors for Lincoln College of Technology for their Diesel Repair, Automotive Repair, Collision Repair and Heavy Equipment Repair education programs. WE regularly have local high schools and tech schools tour our facilities.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

WE have an online application process. It normally takes about 15-20 minutes to complete. Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

WE normally perform a short phone screening before we bring an applicant in for an in-person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

WE normally bring the applicant into our facility for an in-person interview. In the case of a technician applicant they will meet and be interviewed by the service foremen, service manager, operations manager and division manager. The applicant will be given a complete tour of the facility, given a written copy of the job description and benefits package and encourage to ask questions to make sure there is a good "fit" with the company and the applicant.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

WE perform preemployment background checks and drug screenings as part of our employment process. ALL applicants must successfully pass these requirements to be considered for employment with our company.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

WE do not perform a skills assessment.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

WE normally want to make a decision on hiring the applicant with 1-3 business days.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

WE understand applicants want a decision as quickly as possible. WE review new applications daily and endeavor to make contact with the applicant and schedule initial phone screenings and in person interviews as quickly as possible. It takes normally 5-7 business days for final results from the preemployment drug screening and background check. Employment cannot be offered to an applicant until we have received confirmation of the applicant successfully passing the preemployment drug screening and background check.

Maintains an acceptable level of efficiency for all repairs in accordance with company standards. POSITION SUMMARY - DS501 SERVICE ADVISOR To be successful in this position this person must become the advocate for the customer, focusing on the customer’s experience. Ensures that the customer feels a sense of urgency when WE communicate and how WE communicate, that urgency MUST be felt by the customer when they arrive and throughout the repair process. Utilizes listening and observation skills to customize the WE experience the customer receives. Clearly communicates to the customer what to expect from our services and works to exceed the agreed upon expectations. Goes beyond to communicate the repair progress to the customer along with what they should expect to pay and when they should expect the services to be completed. When this situation changes, this position MUST update the customer expeditiously. Retirement Plan Offered
401(K) SAVINGS PLAN The Company has established a 401(k) savings plan to provide employees the potential for future financial security for retirement. To be eligible to join the 401(k) savings plan, you must complete 90 Consecutive days of service and be 18 years of age or older. Eligible employees may participate in the 401(k) plan subject to all terms and conditions of the plan. Entry dates are monthly. All new hires are automatically enrolled in the 401(k) Plan @ 1% deferral. At the employee’s anniversary date, the automatic deferral percentage increases 1% each year for a maximum of 6%, unless the employee opts out. 401(k) savings plan allows you to elect a percentage of salary (1% - 15%) that you want to contribute and direct the investment of your plan account, so you can tailor your own retirement package to meet your individual needs. Sick Leave Offered
Employees are provided earned paid time off (PTO) to use at their discretion. Sick leave is incorporated into the PTO program.
Vacation Offered
The amount of PTO (paid time off) accrued is based on the employees’ tenure with the company and accrues as follows: • From the first day of employment to their third-year anniversary date, employees will earn PTO at the rate of 1.54 hours per pay period. • From their third-year anniversary date to their 10th year anniversary date, employees will earn 3.1 hours of PTO per pay period. • From their 10th year anniversary forward, employees will earn 4.6 hours of PTO per pay period. • Employees may accrue up to 160 hours in their PTO account. Once the account reaches a balance of 160 hours, PTO will stop accruing until the employee takes PTO and reduces their balance.
