The shop is heated.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

13 shop techs, 5 road techs, and 3 interns; 1 service manager; 4 service writers/admin; 1 parts manager; 5 parts & service associates; 4 sales reps; 1 general manager; admin & IT team of 4.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

7:00am - 5:00pm

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Jumbo Wrenches, ¾” Drive Ratchets & Sockets/impacts, Large torque wrenches, Diagnostic and testing tools, Vermeer specific tools (chain tools, coupling alignment tools, etc), Drill Bits, PPE, etc.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a break room off the shop with a couple microwaves, fridges, a stove/oven, and a couple of TVs.

How many bays does your shop have?

10 bays and adding 8 more by the end of 2023

What is your parts ordering process?

Create an estimate for the repair using the technician's laptop (all laptops are provided by the company). Send the estimate to the customer for approval. Once approved, the technician can convert the estimate into a work order through our business system (CDK). The work order will create a parts ticket for the Parts department, who will pick the parts and inform the technician when the parts are ready.

What is your policy on side work?

No side work allowed during business hours.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We are a third generation family-owned business with a culture of teamwork, customer service, and growth!

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We have paid, on-the-job training. Each technician has an individual growth plan base on both personal and business needs. Technical trainings could include: engines, hydraulics, specific product (Vermeer, Yanmar, Teupen), welding, etc. Soft skill trainings could include: customer service, communication, leadership, etc. We also offer a Tuition Assistance Program for both technician interns AND degree-seeking team members if the degree is applicable to the role. We reimburse up to $2,600 per semester (not to exceed $5,000 annually).

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We like to promote within when possible. There are remote and road technician, lead technician, shop foreman, service writer, and service manager opportunities within our 10 dealerships.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We have a formal check-in process twice per year. We review goal attainment (topics could include: efficiency ratings, performance, rework, etc.), personal/professional development, team participation, and work ethic, to name a few examples.

What type of safety training is required?

We do Monday morning safety meetings. It's important that we have the right tools to be safe, and with that comes weekly trainings.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We assign new hires a "buddy" so when they have issues or questions, they don't have to wait to get answers if the Service Manager is working with other techs or customers.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We give our team members 8 hours of paid volunteer time each year. We do projects with Brace for Impact 46, which supports families in Haiti and North St. Louis - every year we pack 80,000 meals. We also work with local schools and churches, especially during our annual toy drive!

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We work with State Tech University as well as some local high schools. We're always looking for interns and provide an intern sponsorship program that reimburses our interns' tuition up to $2,500 per semester!

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We are adding 8 additional bays and more office space as an addition to our building in 2022-23. We are also building a facility in Collinsville, IL and potentially 2 additional service facilities in Missouri. We will continue to grow our people ,as well as work. Our goal is keep our customers productive and profitable.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $87,000 - $98,000/year

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $76,000 - $87,000/year

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $65,000 - $76,000/year

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $54,000 - $65,000/year
