Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
The shop is heated and is cooled by large fans and cross breezes.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
There is a site manager, an administrative assistant and five technicians at full staff.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
There is one shift, Monday thru Friday, 8am to 5pm, with a 1 hour lunch.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
They provide wrenches from 1 1/4 and up in size, impact air ratchets, diagnostic computers, and lifts/jacks.
What type of break room facility is provided?
The break room consists of a table, chairs, refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker.
How many bays does your shop have?
The shop has a total of 15 bays with the majority of the work being done in the six primary bays.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
The average amount of repair orders varies, depending on the need. The work orders could range from 90 up to 160 a month and range from quick PM’s to heavy, in depth repairs.
What is your parts ordering process?
If parts are needed, the technician can check the current stock or look up and order the part.
What is your policy on side work?
Side work is okay outside of Vector Fleet's regular work hours. Outside work is not allowed in the facility.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
One Saturday, quarterly, there is an inventory check. This is mandatory for all workers at the site. You may be asked to work a Saturday pending on the work load, but that is usually voluntary.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Yes, we have a full incentive-based training and certification program with the foundation being our very own Vector Technical Institute. Technicians can train and recertify throughout their tenure and be additionally compensated as they progress.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Vector has multiple locations across Texas and the U.S. Employees are always promoted from within when their experience and certifications meet the needs of the company. We also employ individual career development plans.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Performance reviews are done annually for each employee. It is based on performance, productivity, and certifications received.
What type of safety training is required?
Vector is very safety focused and driven., There are safety meetings every Wednesday. The first Wednesday of the month is OSHA training.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
At Vector Fleet, we have seasoned employees who are happy to help and teach new technicians.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
As a non-retail facility, community involvement is limited. Vector does support the City of Big Spring with some of their community initiatives if there is an opportunity.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We have previously engaged with technical schools and we do have an apprentice program. We have not had much success from this in the past, but remain open to continuing this program if an opportunity arises.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes, we do phone screen applicants prior to an in-person interview. This is usually a call to determine whether or not the candidate has the specific skills and knowledge required for the position.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
Our in-person interviews entail a technical skill evaluation by the site manager. A brief tour of the facility and equipment is conducted as well.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Yes, once a candidate accepts our offer, we run a background and motor vehicle check, and the candidate is required to pass a drug screen.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
No, we do not. However, we do perform a skill assessment after hire to target development areas.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Sometimes, the hiring manager will make an offer to the candidate at the time of the in-person interview. Otherwise, it usually will take 24-48 hours to hear back from the hiring manager.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
If we have an open position, we like to fill it as soon as possible. Once the candidate submits their application, they would hear from the hiring manager within 24-48 hours. Our pre-hire process entails a background check and drug screen. Unfortunately, we cannot determine the time frame for that, We can estimate it usually takes 1-3 weeks.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?
While certifications are a significant plus for any candidate, we do not disparage candidates that do not have them. We place value on their experience and promote their development through our training program.
Diesel Mechanic
Pay Range: $30.00 - $37.00/hour
Pay rate is based on relevant experience and certifications.
Automotive Mechanic
Pay Range: $20.00 - $28.00/hour
Pay rate is based on relevant experience and certifications.

- Yes, we offer health insurance to our full-time employees and their dependents. We have two (2) medical plans through United Health Care, administered by UMR. The employee is eligible on the first day of the month following their hire date.

- Yes, we offer dental insurance to our full-time employees and their dependents. This plan is through Unum. The employee is eligible on the first day of the month following their hire date.

- Yes, we offer vision insurance to our full-time employees and their dependents. This plan is through Unum. The employee is eligible on the first day of the month following their hire date.
- Retirement Plan Offered
- We have a 401(K) plan. After six (6) months of full-time service the employee is automatically enrolled into the plan. Plus, they will receive a company match of 50% on the first 5% they save. They can choose to opt out.

- Fee Reimbursements – The Company will reimburse testing fees for certifications in a related field, and CDL fees, including required physical if the Vector site requires a CDL.
