Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated, we provide a swamp cooler for the warmer months.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

4-6 Technicians, 2 Advisors, 2 Parts Counter People, 1 Service Manager

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop hours: 7:30AM-5PM Monday Thru Friday 7:30AM-4:30PM Saturday

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

24K Alignment Rack, Cherry pickers, pallet lift, floor jacks, Lube bay toolkit, Tire Machine, Tire Balancing, 6-12K Lifts.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Breakroom with microwave, wet bar, fridge, and separate bathroom.

How many bays does your shop have?

Eight

How many repair orders do you average per month?

300-400

What is your parts ordering process?

We use Affinitive MPI for the shop in order to speed up parts availability and ordering. This software allows clients to approve or deny labor directly through text message.

What is your policy on side work?

Weekends only upon General Manager approval.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Family owned dealer group since 1937. We pride ourselves on only recommending the work that needs to be done not based on time or miles. You will have the opportunity to work directly with ownership and be able to make suggestions that will not fall on def ears.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We are constantly training our technicians so we can have the most advanced and knowledgeable shop in Central Oregon. We pride ourselves in hiring like minded individuals that strive for excellence in everything that they do and hunger for knowledge.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

There are many levels of advancement for our dealership not just in the shop but in the front of the store, we plan to grow our operations and current employees are where we look when new positions open up as a result.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We try and hold a performance review every 4-6 months with our shop asking questions about how you feel you fit in with the culture to what do you think is a major contributor to an ineffective work environment. We constantly post hours on the wall as well as where you will be as far as efficiency.

What type of safety training is required?

We work With SAIF and our insurance company to provide you with the proper training when it comes to chemicals, lubes, or machinery you will be working with.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Master technicians and shop foremen, we are currently working on a partnership with Madras Highschool to have our mentors see new interested technicians soon!

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are a sponsor for the local 4H Clubs and many youth rodeo programs. We also sponsor the Madras High School shop program that they are developing. This is a National effort that we are building with ford to grow the bench of technicians ready to enter this rewarding field.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Our goal for this shop is to create a culture of hard working individuals who focus on customer satisfaction and caring. We want to have a shop so effective that we expand our operations into a truck and heavy duty department that can handle things like RVs and different large diesel machinery.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Yes. This form usually takes 10-15 minutes to fill out.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes. Expect a call if you are a qualified candidate within 24 hours.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Usually our in person interview will be held with either the General Manager or the Shop Manager in the Shop managers office. We will ask questions focused on whether or not you will be a good fit for what we are looking for in a technician.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No. We look for certifications or we assume you know very little about automotive. If you prove us wrong that is a welcome extra!

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

2-7 Days

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $30.00 - $45.00/hour

A level tech is a Senior Master Technician(SMT) who can repair any vehicle concern coming through the door, Or a SMT that specializes in Transmission, Engine Drivability, Or Diesel. They should have completed all STST training for Master Technician status(MT)

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $25.00 - $35.00/hour

B level tech is a MT who can repair most any vehicle concern and may or may not have all STST training completed. At a minimum they should have STST completed in categories 31, 32, 33, 34, 35, 36, 38, 39 and either STST completed in either 51, 52 and or 37. They are not specialized in any diagnostics but are in general considered a competent technician.

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $20.00 - $25.00/hour

C level Tech can be a main shop tech that is considered a parts changer with little diagnostics capabilities, and needs oversight by a more experienced technician. They can also be located in the quick lane. They should have STST certifications in categories 32, 33, 34, 38 at a minimum.

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hour

Quick Lane/shadowing main shop technician who needs constant oversight by an experienced technician/shop foreman. They should have STST categories 33, 34, 38 assigned to them with Category 34 completed within 6 months. And Category 33 and 38 completed within the first year.

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $30,000.00 - $90,000.00/year

We Pay advisors on a commission of how many hours they sell through the shop. your ability to sell hours and effectively flow work through the shop will determine your pay.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $15.00 - $20.00/hour

We use the Ford Top tech and ASSET program to put young aspiring technicians through school to become a master tech by the end of their tenure. We are a shop dedicated to growing our own Master technicians and cultivating a loyal base of hard working and successful technicians.
