About Us

Truck Country Technical Institute is one of the best Freightliner Dealership Training Centers in the mid-west. Located in Dubuque Iowa is our Corporate training facility for all of the Truck Country technicians. In growing our training department we have expanded into training our fixed operations personnel. From and advisor to a parts counter position you can expect to receive training. We can certify our technicians for all Freightliner and Detroit Diesel requirements in house with four certified instructors. Class sizes range from four to ten technicians, so there is a hands on atmosphere training with instructors. There is over 100 years of experience and knowledge across our instructors with the want to share and coach this to our techs.

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

All class rooms are both heat and A/C. Shop area is heated - no A/C

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have a great team of in house trainers. There are 4 Certified Freightliner/Detroit instructors with additional trainers that come in and out to perform classes. One admin and Director on site. Small Team feel atmosphere.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday thru Friday. 7am - 5pm *** No weekends but we do have special events from time to time week nights.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide all tools needed for instructors.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a break room - cooler fridge - grill. Lunches are typically catered in but we also like to grill for the training classes at times.

How many bays does your shop have?

6 bays with 5 of those that are 3 truck deep. Two bays additional bays for engine training only.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

With Truck Country growing in size and now up to 26 locations, our tech count keeps increase. This is job security for trainers as we have to have certified techs trained.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We have annual reviews but as the Director, I am in constant communication on developing my team. Weekly - daily.

What type of safety training is required?

quarterly online. We also assist in the development of our technical safety program in shops.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a coaching program and there could be classes for coaches from time to time.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We have multiple career events and host the Boy Scout Explorer diesel program annually.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We have high school diesel tech classes in partnership with the local college. Students will receive credit to further their education if they chose to.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

What do your in-person interviews entail?

We would look at skills, past work, hobbies and interests. Where do you see yourself in the future? Do you know about our company?

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes - MVR and criminal history. Once hired we will send an offer letter. Once that's signed, a physical and drug screen required. *** If you have a CDL, we require an FMCSA clearinghouse query.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Currently no.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Almost with in a week pending all interviews have been completed.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

No more than 2 weeks approximately.

Diesel Technical Trainer Pay Range: $50,000 - $70,000/year

We are looking for a trainer to start working with our High School training program and assist in other classes. Freightliner technical certifications are a plus as they require our instructors to be certified as a technician prior to becoming a trainer. We have increases based on OEM certification to teach.

Health Insurance Offered: We offer a major medical policy to all Full-time, hourly employees immediately upon hire to help "bridge" a gap in health insurance. After 90 days of employment, standard medical insurance (PPO or High Deductible) is available to all Full-time hourly employees.
Dental Insurance Offered: We offer a dental plan to all Full-time, hourly employees, after completion of 90 days of employment.
Vision Insurance Offered: Vision Insurance is included with the standard medical policy.
Retirement Plan Offered: McCoy Group offers a competitive 401(k) retirement plan to full-time employees. Upon becoming eligible to participate, you will receive an enrollment packet and PIN letter from our plan trustee, Principal Financial Group. Employees are automatically enrolled at a contribution rate of 6% in a target fund based on their birth year; however, you have the option to waive participation or elect alternate funds and/or deferral rates at any point in time after you become eligible for the plan.
Sick Leave Offered: "Paid Time Off (PTO) is a benefit we offer to be used for vacation, personal days, and sick days. Different than a traditional time off program that specifies uses for Vacation, Personal Days or Sick Days, a PTO plan allows the employee to manage and use their paid time off for whatever reason they choose. New full-time hires and current part-time employees transitioning to full-time are eligible for PTO after 90 days of full-time employment. Full-time employees shall be regarded as those who are regularly scheduled to work at least thirty (30) hours weekly. Only full-time employees are considered benefit-eligible and receive a full benefit package. Part-time employees are those who regularly work less than thirty (30) hours per week."

Paid Holidays Offered: Full-Time employees will receive six(6) designated holidays each year. Hourly employees whose employment commences during a holiday week will not be paid for the holiday. To qualify for holiday pay, the employee must work their scheduled shift the days immediately before and following the holiday unless an absence has been approved. The paid holidays are: 1.New Year’s Day 2.Memorial Day 3.Independence Day 4.Labor Day 5.Thanksgiving Day 6.Christmas Day
ST / LT Disability Offered: The McCoy Group offers Short-Term Disability Insurance to all Full-Time employees after 90 days of employment Regular, Full-Time employees are eligible after three (3) years of employment for Long-term Disability.
