Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated and has Swamp coolers.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We are looking for a total of 3 people in the office. One office Service Advisor manager runs the shop and keeps everything running. Does most of the selling, ordering the parts, and keeps the shop on track. One Service writer can assist the Service Advisor Manager and one Service writer assistant. 1-2 Master Technicians, 2-3 Mid-level B techs, and one C tech

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday through Friday 8 am to 5 pm for the techs and for the office, it is 7:30 am to 5:30 pm. For any Flat rate techs, we allow them to work more extended hours as they want and see fit.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide a tire balancer, changer, and alignment machine. Four different types of scanners. We also provide most tools such as timing chain kits, lifts, welders, and most other shop tools that are in blow molds. One drive through alignment machine.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We offer an open lunch room with a table, refrigerator (with ice), hot plate, microwave, etc.

How many bays does your shop have?

5 two posts, 1 four posts, one inground two-post, one-half lift, and two flat stalls.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

150, Currently working on marketing to raise that up when we have the right team in place.

What is your parts ordering process?

We use mitchell1 as our POS system, once the customer approves the job, we order the parts, once all the parts are received, they are labeled and put on the technician's shelf and the work order is dispatched to the technician in priority.

What is your policy on side work?

If you are taking care of your wife, sister, or mother, kind of deal, we welcome you to use the shop after hours with pre-approval. We highly discourage otherwise.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We are working on making the best work area possible. We hire one person just to clean the shop every day.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer AC Delco training, NAPA in-person training, ATRA (Automatic Transmission Rebuilding Association) training in Vegas, Hunter alignment and tire machine in pers training, ATE (Automotive Training Expo) in Seattle, and other vendor training paid by the company. ASE Certification raises (paid and unpaid by the company).

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We want to grow and promote from within when possible.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We work on 90-day and 1-year reviews that are 360 performance reviews.

What type of safety training is required?

Minimal unless you have little experience.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We allow our senior techs to work with younger techs to help to learn about inspections, services, and repairs. This allows the flat-rate tech assigned to the younger tech to receive those flat rate hours to the senior tech.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Our shop provides a quarterly Family or Women Car Care Clinic to help the local community how to check their fluids in the car, and other free education opportunities

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We currently work with Mt Hood and two other colleges.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We would like to see us in a bigger shop that has an even happier attitude than we have now. We will be a place where our shop will most employees forever shop. We will be offering more education programs when it comes to teaching techs how to rebuild transmission, transfer cases, and differentials.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

We will always believe that our employees come first. When we take care of the employees, they will take care of the customers and the customers will have no problems paying the bill. We also have programs for Veterans and women to help them be a part of our program.

We use a boarding company called Rippling so no one person's private information is in the office.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $60,000.00 - $125,000.00/year ($28.85 - $60.10/hr)

Top pay for top techs, currently our B techs make over $100,000. What can you bring to the table?

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $40,000.00 - $102,000.00/year ($19.23 - $49.04/hr)

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $30,000.00 - $45,000.00/year ($14.42 - $21.63/hr)

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $28,000.00 - $35,000.00/year ($13.46 - $16.83/hr)

Service Manager
Service Managers are responsible for management and overall health of the shop. Service Managers are typically focused on running an efficient shop that meets their financial goals. Other responsibilities can include staffing, performance evaluations, and financial analysis amongst many other responsibilities.
Pay Range: $55,000.00 - $125,000.00/year ($26.44 - $60.10/hr)
