Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Our facility is heated and has multiple "Big Ass Fans" ceiling fans throughout the shop.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Our team consists of 42 teammates

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We support 4-10 hour shifts which are either Mon-Thurs, or Tues-Friday. This secures 3 day weekends for all 4 day employees. 5 day positions are also available pending position. Unlike some body shops, we are not open on weekends.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All large equipment such as welders, frame racks, and OEM specialized tooling for our many OEM certifications.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a moderate sized break room with a smart TV, fridge, and kitchen area.

What is your parts ordering process?

We place each order individually based on the specific vehicle needs. We are supported by the many Tom Wood Dealer brands that are on our street.

What is your policy on side work?

Strictly prohibited.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We are the first Collision Center in the country to have installed a UVeye vehicle scanning platform.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We have a corporate training for basics/intro level technician training, as well as getting comfortable with Xtime inspection tool and media usage for inspections. We also pay for technicians to go to manufacturer training and get certified in all the necessary skills all the way up to Master level. Continued education via online and classroom training. We also have tuition reimbursement plans for courses taken while employed.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

There are advancement opportunities available both at our location as well as in our entire organization.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We have an initial 60 day review as well as annual reviews unless it is required to have more at other intervals.

What type of safety training is required?

There are corporate level interactive video trainings and any required manufacturer training courses.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our tenured technicians do a great job of mentoring and teaching new technicians

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Tom Wood is very involved in the community. We are the main sponsor for the automotive education at Ivy Tech Community College. We have an annual golf outing for the American Cancer Society. We have a toy drive for YMCA each year. We are also involved with Lincoln Tech, Wyotech, and J Everett Light Career Center.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Our corporate trainer recently recruited a few people from J Everett Light Career Center, which is a local high school level career center. We also invest in and recruit from Lincoln Tech and Ivy Tech locally, as well as Wyotech nationally.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We see a fully staffed service drive and enough technicians to handle all incoming work and keep everyone busy!

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We have an online application that takes about 15-20 minutes to fill out.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, we screen applications and resumes to check employment history, experience, etc.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Usually the first interview is one-on-one with the service manager. For some positions, we will have a second interview or bring the GM in for the interview.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $16.00 - $20.00/hour

Entry level technician position. Will be paired with a senior tech for on the job training.

Collision Technician - A Level Pay Range: $20.00 - $28.00/hour

Technician capable of all needed work for large repairs. Structural, frame, mechanical, etc. We are proud to be certified in many OEM's and this position will require continual training.

Collision Technician - B Level Pay Range: $20.00 - $25.00/hour

Technician capable of all work up until structural and frame.

Customer Service Representative Pay Range: $16.00 - $20.00/hour

Experience providing outstanding customer service by showcasing expertise, fostering trust, and growing customer satisfaction An effective communicator who understands the importance of listening and being empathetic Willingness to learn new skills and ability to adjust to changes quickly Open to feedback to support your performance and development Solid computer and multi-tasking skills Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; college degree or currently pursuing preferred

Estimator Pay Range: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00/year

2 years of experience working as an estimator (preferably) Dedicated to creating a superb customer experience Ability to work independently Ability to create reports on costing data Amazing analytical and math skills Ability to work well on a team Very detail-oriented

Detail / Porter Pay Range: $18.00 - $22.00/hour

Maintains a clean and safe work environment Emptying trash, shop sweeping, and general cleanup Monitoring grounds for proper organization and cleanliness Washes vehicle exterior, cleans interior and exterior windows, and wipes down doorjambs Vacuums interior of vehicles to remove loose dirt and debris Cleans upholstery, rugs, and other surfaces, using appropriate cleaning agents, applicators, and cleaning devices Applies revitalizers and preservation agents to interior vinyl or leather surfaces and treats fabrics with spot- and stain-resistant chemicals Inspects vehicles for noticeable defects; such as dents, scratches, torn upholstery, and poor mechanical operation Restores the appearance of engine area, rugs and upholstery, and painted surfaces; uses touch-up paint, dyes, and other appropriate materials Applies dressing on tires and tire wells Reports any safety issues immediately to management Other duties as assigned…
