Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
The shop is heated. The building and break rooms are air conditioned, the shop floor used large fans to cool.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
Our location has 20 employes and there are 6 technicians.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Shop is open 8-5 daily, Monday through Friday. We are open 24 hours for road calls.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Technician is required to have their own tool box and tools, but the shop also has sets of all tools that can be borrowed.
What type of break room facility is provided?
Full size break room that seats 12 with a refrigerator and microwave to heat up food. There is television and Wi-Fi for employee use.
How many bays does your shop have?
There are 7 bays.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
Depends on role and job. A job can take 40 hours to do or 1 hours.
What is your parts ordering process?
We have a parts department where the tech provides a parts order invoice and they place or fill the order with on-hand stock.
What is your policy on side work?
No side work allowed on the property.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We have a TKU (Thermo King University) training program that helps accelerate technicians to higher levels of job knowledge. Mandatory education or CE is required each year to improve or maintain current job status.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Technicians can move from Entry Level Technicians to Master and Senior Tech. There is also management roles like Service manager or Parts manager to elevate to. High level roles can include Operations Manager.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Completed once a year at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Tech provides a written self review and reporting manager writes a development review highlighting success and opportunities.
What type of safety training is required?
All Mandatory OSHA training is provided at start of employment and followed up with regularly.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
On the job training and observation and then web/computer based training.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
Job fairs and marketing.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We offer internships and will also all work release through the local Vo-tech.
Where do you see the shop in five years?
Growing and expanding in size.
Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?
Applications are done online via indeed and takes 10 minutes
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes, one phone screen before in person interviews.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
Face to face meeting with VP/GM and position manager. Small assessment to gauge understanding and facility walkthrough.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Drug Screening for all technicians since they need to operate vechicles.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Yes, one hour test that is in the written variety. With schematics and question and answer.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Pay Range: $26 - $32/hour
Wage range will depend on experience with Mobile Transport Refrigeration and Repairs

Pay Range: $25 - $30/hour

Top Shop Challenge: Let's talk about shop meetings. How do you keep your team informed without having too many meetings?
Communication is paramount for the shops and all department success. The department leaders meet every Monday to review prior week results and talk about our wins and losses. We will also discuss the plans for the current week and what we need to achieve our goals. We also discuss any relevant company changes from the prior week or moving forward along with deadlines. It's paramount that we work together to help each other out and drive success and the feeling of togetherness.
