Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Swamp coolers.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Four technicians, one other apprentice, and two service advisors.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. We typically want this position here at 7:30-7:45.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Specialty removers and installers, scan tools, floor jacks, fluid exchanging machines.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Large break room with refrigerator and two microwaves.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

95

What is your parts ordering process?

Service advisors order all parts if they not stocked in our facility.

What is your policy on side work?

We do not allow side work to be performed on premises and ask that it not be performed in a way that is competitive to Strictly Diesel.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We will reimburse for ASE tests that are taken and passed. Apprentice and entry level techs will receive more real world training than you'll receive in any classroom.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

This depends on your skills, work ethic and drive to grow within the company. Our long term goal with any apprentice is to grow them into a full time technician.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Probationary review performed at 90 days, again at 6 months, then yearly reviews are performed within the first quarter of each calendar year.

What type of safety training is required?

No training is required, but common sense is a must.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

It's 100% hands on and working under their supervision.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Each year we donate a large amount of canned food to St. Mary's Food Bank that we collect from customers. We do provide other charitable donations throughout the year.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Not at this time.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

As busy if not busier than we have been since the doors opened in 2005!

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

No we do not have a form, resumes are always preferred.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes we do.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Getting to know the applicant as a person, as well as skills acquired. Job skills and work history are important to us, but it's more important that we bring in the right people to fit with our team.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do perform drug screenings and personality tests.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Typically within one week.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

We try our hardest to make it as quick and easy as possible. We do understand that you may need and expect to give your current employer a two week notice.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

Our basic requirements are pretty simple. We want an employee with a strong work ethic, willing to show up (on time) and give 100% when you're here, a good attitude and fitting in with our team is a must.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $72,000 - $120,000/year

Actual pay may vary and is based on a flat rate pay plan. Hourly wage is dependent on skills, workmanship and productivity.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $58,000 - $80,000/year

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $39,000 - $61,000/year

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $42,000 - $80,000/year

This is a salary position with bonus potential.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $18 - $23/hour

Hourly wage will depend on experience and performance over time.

Accidental death and dismemberment insurance covered at no cost to employee after 90 days. Loyalty bonus is paid to each full time employee after their anniversary date. It will equal $200 multiplied by the number of years of employment. . New Hire Referral bonus of $1000 is paid if we hire a candidate that was referred to us by an employee.
