Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is very well ventilated and has kerosene jet heaters for the colder months. The shop is not air conditioned. Fans are provided, and the shop is well illuminated.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have 8 technicians in the shop and 3 mobile technicians that on occasion also work in the shop. We have a service manager and an admin assistant.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our hours of operation are 7:30-5:00 Monday through Friday. Volume of work creates overtime opportunities with some frequency.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

The shop has full access to clean compressed air. We provide 1" impact wenches and impacts sockets, J-Pro diagnostic laptop computers, shop supplies, parts cleaner, wheel end specialty tools, floor jacks, jack stands, transmission jacks, and other safety and heavy tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Break room is air conditioned with a stove, refrigerator, microwave, and comfortable seating.

How many bays does your shop have?

We have 17 bays, 2 of which are drive-through, and 2 alignment racks.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We complete approximately 450-500 repair orders per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

The technician submits parts requests to the service manager. We maintain an inventory of common filters, bulk oil, and other commonly used parts and fasteners.

What is your policy on side work?

Technicians are not permitted to compete with Snider Fleet Solutions by working on Snider customer equipment directly. Technicians are permitted to work on their own vehicles or non HD work after hours. Basically you can't compete with us, don't do work that could otherwise come to our shop.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Snider Fleet Solutions works very hard at each of our shops to maintain a congenial and cooperative work environment. Heavy truck maintenance is hard work, and we consider maintaining a low-stress environment a critical function of management. We have frequent company-paid shop lunches, toolbox meetings, and we encourage open communication and collaboration between technicians and managers.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Apprentice technicians are mentored by our most experienced technicians. As technicians demonstrate the mastery of skills and independent work, they are evaluated regularly for advancement to the next level with commensurate compensation. Snider provides training in-house at our corporate headquarters "Snider University" as well as partnering with vendors to provide training on the most modern technology, tools, and practices.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Snider Fleet Solutions has ambitious goals for growth at the store level as well as in opening new locations. Can you describe your performance review process?

We require bi-annual reviews that address both strengths and weaknesses and encourage professional development and growth.

What type of safety training is required?

OSHA training is completed during orientation.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our most experienced "A" technicians will mentor apprentices, supervise their work, and inspect completed tasks. No job performed on a customer's vehicle is less important than any other, and Snider seeks to foster a cooperative atmosphere among technicians such that knowledge and experience is freely shared to the benefit of all.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We encourage community outreach and involvement. Our slogan "Go the Extra Mile" is something we see both through work related opportunities as well as areas that assist the community.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We offer a Mechanical Apprentice Program for entry-level mechanics to learn the position from start to finish. Mechanical Apprentices are provided a basic tool kit at 50% cost with the remaining balance payroll deducted over 18 months.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We expect to expand the shop significantly and double in size.

We offer a robust internal training program and constantly assess and develop mechanical skills. Additionally, we provide an orientation and training program to all new employees at our corporate office in Newton, NC. At this orientation, you'll learn the technical aspects of the jobs and the processes that keep the company operating. Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Yes, all candidates are required to fill out an online application. We estimate the application to take no more than 30 minutes to complete.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

While we do not perform a formal phone screen, we may ask general questions when calling to schedule an in-person interview

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Personal history and qualifications. An informal assessment of skills. Provide a history of us, our company, and our beliefs. An overview of our team and benefits. Finishing up with a tour of shop.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

All candidates are required to pass a background check and drug screen. Some roles may also be required to receive a DOT Physical

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Not for mechanical roles

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Typically within 24 hours but no longer than 48 hours

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Approximately 1 week, though typically sooner depending on availability

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

After a candidate is chosen and a verbal offer is made, the process to start takes ~1-2 weeks. This includes signing an offer letter, completing drug/background/physical, and completing onboarding paperwork (direct deposit, I-9, tax withholdings, etc).

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $56,160 - $72,800/year ($27.00 - $35.00/hr)

Pay is based on experience, attitude, time in service and willingness to develop skill sets. Snider offers a monthly productivity bonus program, sign-on bonus, and retention bonus.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $47,840 - $56,160/year

Pay is based on experience, attitude, time in service and willingness to develop skill sets. Snider offers a monthly productivity bonus program, sign-on bonus, and retention bonus.

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $41,600 - $47,840/year

Pay is based on experience, attitude, time in service and willingness to develop skill sets. Snider offers a monthly productivity bonus program, sign-on bonus, and retention bonus.

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $38,480 - $41,600/year

Pay is based on experience, attitude, time in service and willingness to develop skill sets. Snider offers a monthly productivity bonus program, sign-on bonus, and retention bonus.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $38,480 - $41,600/hour

Pay is based on level of prior training- vocational school or military; attitude, and willingness to be mentored and develop the skills to become a productive technician. As the apprentice transitions to a technician role, they will be eligible for productivity and retention bonuses. In addition, Snider has a generous tool program for apprentice technicians.

Vacation Offered
Hourly associates receive 40 hours of vacation after 90 days. After the first year of employment, additional vacation hours are earned based on the following scale: Two (2) through six (6) years of employment: 80 hours annually. Seven (7) through fourteen (14) year of employment: 120 hours annually. Over fifteen (15) years of employment: 160 hours annually.
