Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is fully climate controlled.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Technicians work individually on projects but are on a team of technicians within their department. We have 15-18 technicians on the main shop team, 4-6 on our used car team and 8-10 on the express team. The shop foreman is available to assist as needed.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

The shop is open Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday, and is open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. On Saturdays we close at 4:00 pm. Technicians typically work 10 hour shifts, 5 days a week.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

At Scott Clark Honda we have a variety of tools available for our technicians, such as: -2 alignment racks -2 tire changers -2 balancers -4 off-car brake lathes -spring compressor -hydraulic press -Wynn’s fluid exchange machines -built in tool boxes -transmission and cradle jack -Many of the Honda specific special tools techs will need.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Technicians have access to a break room with seating, vending machines, a refrigerator, television, and lockers.

How many bays does your shop have?

We have a total of 53 bays.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average 4000 repair orders each month.

What is your parts ordering process?

A combination of working with our parts department countermen and utilization of "Xtime," an electronic multipoint inspection software.

What is your policy on side work?

All vehicles in shop must have a repair order associated with it. Personal work needs to be discussed and approved by service director.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Our facility is fully climate controlled, we provide the best built in tool boxes at no cost to the technician, have automatic high speed doors in the shop, and each technician has their own computer station.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes, Honda provides 240 self-study tests, 69 in-school training modules, and employer reimbursed ASE certifications.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We provide our technicians with opportunities to participate in Honda self studies, receive ASE certifications, and collaborate with our in-house team of Master Honda Technicians. As they progress in their career, they will have the option to go to Honda School to get even further training.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Regular meetings are held between shop leaders and management discussing team progression, opportunities, and planning. With that information, short and long term goals are reviewed and updated with team members to monitor their individual progress. These conversations happen weekly with our team members.

What type of safety training is required?

We partner with multiple online and in-person safety training providers to ensure all of our technicians are in full compliance.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have multiple senior technicians, including the shop foreman, that have taken on an official mentor role in the shop. Our goal is to create and foster a collaborative environment that centers around teamwork and quality. We encourage everyone to work together, and incentivize quality.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We support multiple local non-profit agency's and school districts with an emphasis on helping students prepare for the workforce. Scott Clark Toyota is a people-oriented, family-first business committed to the success and wellbeing of its employees, staff and Community. In the past we have partnered with Union County Public Schools, Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools, Riley's Catch, and many more local non profits. We are not only a community business but a community partner!

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are dedicated to helping students succeed by providing an immersive internship experience within the Scott Clark Auto Group. CMS and Union County students gain access to a robust network of relationships within our dealer group. Students interested in Auto I & II are invited to participate in a semester long internship in our service department. The Scott Clark Accelerator for Leadership and Education is another example of our innovation and commitment to the Charlotte community.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Application forms can be found on our career page at Scottclarkhonda.com or in person at the reception desk. Applications typically take 30 minutes or less.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, all scheduled interviews will be preceded by a phone call from our department head to provide the applicant with the necessary information.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our in-person interviews provide you the opportunity to meet with our shop foreman and/or service director. You will get to know our team, and we will get to know you. You will have an opportunity to share your skill set, and we will be able to ask about aptitude for the position you are applying for.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Scott Clark Honda requires a background check and drug screening prior to hiring. Additionally you must have a valid drivers license and clean driving record.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We will assess your skill set during the interview process through a verbal automotive assessment with our shop foreman.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

An offer can be made quickly pending the required background check and drug screening.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

The process from start to end, takes no longer than one week after the test have been completed, unless there is something that needs clarification.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

We allow our applicants the opportunity to meet with multiple team members including the service director, shop foreman, a master technician, and any other shop leaders.

SC Honda Master Technician Pay Range: $29 - $32/hour

Compensation is flat-rate and may be flexible based on experience, skills, certifications, and efficiency.

Expert Technician Pay Range: $25 - $28/hour

Compensation is flat-rate and may be flexible based on experience, skills, certifications, and efficiency.

Intermediate Technician Pay Range: $21 - $24/hour

Compensation is flat-rate and may be flexible based on experience, skills, certifications, and efficiency.

Beginner Technician Pay Range: $18 - $20/hour

Compensation is flat-rate and may be flexible based on experience, skills, certifications, and efficiency.

Express Technician Pay Range: $12 - $14/hour

Compensation is a flat rate, hourly guaranteed. Express technicians can make $500-$800 per week.

Used Car Technician Pay Range: $18 - $23/hour

Compensation is flat-rate and may be flexible based on experience, skills, certifications, and efficiency.

Offered through Blue Cross Blue Shield. We are committed to helping you and your dependents maintain your health and wellness by providing you with access to the highest levels of care. We offer you a choice of two medical plan options. Both plans utilize the same network of providers and include coverage if you choose to go out-of-network.
Dental Insurance Offered
Offered through Delta Dental. You have an option of two dental plans: a PPO plan, offering you in- and out-of-network coverage, and a DHMO plan, which only offers in-network benefits.
Vision Insurance Offered
Offered through Ameritas. The Ameritas Focus vision care benefits includes coverage for eye exams, standard lenses and frames, contact lenses, and discounts for laser surgery. The vision plan is built around a network of eye care providers, with better benefits at a lower cost to you when you use providers who belong to the VSP Choice network.
Retirement Plan Offered
Employees are provided with a 401 (k). We contribute $.50 to your account for every $1.00 you contribute, up to 4% of your eligible pay.
Sick Leave Offered
Offered through Voya Financial, Inc. You have the option to enroll in Voluntary Accident or Critical Illness plans through Voya. These plans pay a cash benefit directly to you if you have a covered accident or critical illness. You don’t have to be enrolled in the major medical plan to enroll, and these benefits are guaranteed issue, renewable and portable.
Vacation Offered
Regular full time employees are eligible for paid vacation that accrues overtime.
Paid Holidays Offered
5 major holidays; technicians receive eight (8) hours of holiday pay at their flat rate in effect on the holiday.
ST / LT Disability Offered
Offered through Mutual of Omaha ST- Benefits can begin on the 8th day following an accident or illness, and last for up to 12 weeks. If you are still disabled after that time, your Long-Term Disability benefits will start. LT- Benefits being following the Short-Term Disability benefits your Long-Term will begin, and will eliminate after 90 days.
Life Insurance Offered
Offered through Mutual of Omaha. Basic Life and AD&D insurance which covers $10,000. Voluntary Life and AD&D Insurance (ADDITIONAL) you have the option to purchase up to $400,000 for yourself and up to $100,000 for your spouse. Lifetime term insurance - Offered through Chubb
