The shop is heated. Fans and water coolers, no AC.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

You would be the third Tech, that is what we consider a full crew. The Service Manager and a Service Writer take care of the front counter.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We are Monday-Friday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM with one hour for lunch. No weekends.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

A Hunter Hawk Eye alignment machine, Hunter brake lathe, BG transmission, brake flush, coolant flush and power steering flush equipment. Snap On, Autel scanners. Ford IDS, GM lap tops. Mitchell Repair. Identifix. Miller Welder. Rotary Lifts. 3 Robinair AC machines.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Small shop, no designated brake room.

How many bays does your shop have?


How many repair orders do you average per month?

In 2021 we averaged 37/week. Year to date it has been 29/week with an average of $755.00 / RO. ROs per week slightly off because we have been short 1 tech for part of the year.

What is your parts ordering process?

After the tech diagnosis the vehicle the information is sent from his tablet to the service writer to create an estimate, all parts are entered on the estimate from the dealer or parts store inventory directly through Mitchell or Repair Link. When the estimate is approved by the customer parts are electronically ordered from the estimate.

What is your policy on side work?

As long as the tech is not getting his side work from my customer base and it does not interfere with his daily work I have no problem with it.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes. Most of our parts suppliers make classes available to us. When ever you attend a class you will be compensated for your time.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

It could be possible to become the person that just does the diagnostic work and over sees the techs.

Can you describe your performance review process?

At the end of the first 90 days we address general performance based on our expectations discussed at hiring. Yearly performance reviews would cover strong and week points, significant improvements, and the employees goals for the next 12 months.

What type of safety training is required?

We have a segment on safety at the beginning of each of our monthly shop meetings.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

When we have a trainee he would work with senior techs as the work flow dictates

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We donate to projects at the local high school and university. I also am a member of a business referral group that sometimes helps with community projects.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Their are no automotive programs in our high school or university.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Continuing to evolve with the rapidly changing technology in the automotive world and continue to be one of the top shops in our city.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

A very short form, mostly contact info. I would rather see your resume.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

No, the phone call is basically to set up the in-person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

You would talk with the owner first, mostly to get to know a little about each other and answer any questions. Then you would sit down with my service manager, more technical.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?


Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?


After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

That would depend on how many interviews I had set. I like to make this process as quick as possible.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

If both sides feel like everything is a good fit it could be on the spot.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $65,000 - $80,000/year

We pay by the flag hour. Their is a year end bonus based on your production and shop profit.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $14 - $18/hour

Pay may change depending on experience and ability to learn.

We pay 50% of health insurance. Our plan is with Blue Cross Blue Shield and it is the Gold Plan.
Dental Insurance Offered
We have dental insurance available through Dental Select. This is not covered by the company but it is a great plan and is very affordable.
Vision Insurance Offered
Our vision plan is through Humana. Again not covered but very affordable.
Retirement Plan Offered
We do offer a retirement plan through Edward Jones, the company will match 3% of your investment and you are fully vested from the beginning.

Vacation is one week after the first year and two weeks after the second. Pay for vacation time is an average of the past 6 months.
