Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shops are heated in the winter. Most bays have their own doors allowing for good airflow.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

There is approximately 30 main shop techs and 11 Quick Lane techs.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Business hours are 7am-6pm Monday through Friday and 7am-5pm on Saturday. Roughly half of our techs work 7am-4pm and the other half works 7am-5pm. Senior Master techs do not work Saturdays.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All Ford factory specialty tools are supplied. There are numerous shop provided tools including all scan tools, many specialty tools, large shop equipment such as press, trans jacks, torch, flush machines, lathes, and all typical equipment required to run a shop of this large size. We also have a tool reimbursement program for Quick Lane technicians that are being promoted into the main shop, this is up to $2,600 for one year paid out at $50 per week for 52 weeks.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a large brand new remodeled break room located upstairs. The break room has a large tv with cable, full size fridge, microwave, sink, towels, plates, silverware, plenty of tables and counter space. Kitchen cantina has food available for purchase!

How many bays does your shop have?

65 bays at main location. Our brand new Ford Pro Elite commercial vehicle center located directly across the street has 24 bays. 89 bays total.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

As an average we have 3,200-3,400 repair orders per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

Our current on hand parts inventory is over $1,500,000 and our off the shelf fill rate is well over 90%. We receive daily stock orders as well as special order parts tied to an RO.

What is your policy on side work?

Technicians are allowed to work on their own vehicles or immediate family members vehicles after hours.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Each and every Olathe Ford associate will be enrolled into Ford Stars training. Stars is Ford factory training, online access 24/7, and has training modules for every position. This is where you will find the bulk of your training and get certifications. We also send employees out for hands on and in classroom training. For technicians training is paid.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We are serious about promoting from within! We promoted 11 technicians in the last 12 months from our Quick Lane into the main shop. Having great attendance, being a team player, doing your Stars training, and having an interest in another position is exactly how to be promoted or transferred into a new or better position.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We do a 90-day performance review, after that it would be on an as needed basis.

What type of safety training is required?

This is completely dependent upon the position, we follow all local and federal guidelines.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a few seasoned technicians that enjoy being a mentor to new or younger techs starting or wanting to advance. Pairing a newer tech with an experienced tech ensures that each apprentice has a clear and defined path to success.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We attend multiple job fairs, partner with local automotive programs within high schools and technical colleges. We donate to local schools for their auto programs, even vehicles for shop class hands on training. We offer job shadowing at times with local students and a number of other things.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are very involved in our local high schools, technical schools, and college level students. We attend in person, participate, donate to multiple area programs.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Rocking and rolling! With the addition of our new Ford Pro Elite fleet and commercial center and additional new mobile service vehicles we are growing quickly. We are always pushing ourselves to meet our customers each and every need.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Our website has a career section where you can apply and upload a resume, this process should take only five to ten minutes. If we for any reason need more information, we may ask you to fill out a paper application prior to your interview, this application takes approximately ten minutes to fill out.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Typically, we will try to make first contact with an applicant by phone. If we are unable to reach by phone, we will contact by SMS or email. We do not do phone interviews, however.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

An in-person interview consists of a tour of the facility, a sit-down interview with one or more managers to discuss in detail the position applied for. We will discuss the job description, requirements, opportunities for advancement within and beyond the position. We will describe in detail the pay plan and what the applicant can do to impact their income.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do perform a background check, drug screening, motor vehicle driver license check prior to any type of employment.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not typically perform a skills assessment prior to employment.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Typically, our pre-employment screenings come back within 2-5 days, and we will be in touch to set up a start date or send a rejection letter.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Average total time is one week.

Automotive Service Advisor Pay Range: $65,000.00 - $100,000.00/year

Base plus commission.

Automotive High Line Service Advisor Pay Range: $65,000.00 - $115,000.00/year

Base plus commission.

Automotive Service Porter Pay Range: $32,600.00 - $32,700.00/year ($15.67 - $15.72/hr)

Full time hourly. Paid bi-weekly.

Automotive Transmission Technician / Rebuilder Pay Range: $75,000.00 - $125,000.00/year ($36.06 - $60.10/hr)

Flat rate pay, $5 more per hour for warranty work. Paid weekly.

Automotive Quick Lane Technician Pay Range: $18.00 - $23.00/hour

Full time hourly, overtime available at times. Paid weekly.

Diesel Technician / Mechanic Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $125,000.00/year ($38.46 - $60.10/hr)

Flat rate pay, based on certifications and experience. Extra $5 per hour for warranty work. Paid weekly.

Automotive Technician / Mechanic Pay Range: $42,000.00 - $100,000.00/year ($20.19 - $48.08/hr)

Flat rate pay, based on certifications and experience. Extra $5 per hour for warranty work. Paid weekly.

Detailer / Lincoln Car Washer Pay Range: $31,000.00 - $35,000.00/year ($14.90 - $16.83/hr)

Full time hourly. Paid bi-weekly.

Receptionist / Call Center / Automotive Dealership Pay Range: $33,250.00 - $35,000.00/year ($15.99 - $16.83/hr)

Hourly position. Paid bi-weekly.

Automotive Fleet and Commercial Center All Positions Pay Range: $33,250.00 - $125,000.00/year ($15.99 - $60.10/hr)

All positions available. Some hourly positions, some are base plus commission, and some positions are flat rate pay. Technicians paid weekly, other positions are bi-weekly.

Automotive Sales Associate Pay Range: $50,000.00 - $80,000.00/year

Base plus commission.

Parts Counterperson Pay Range: $50,000.00 - $100,000.00/year ($24.04 - $48.08/hr)

Commission position.

Transmission R&R Technician Automotive Pay Range: $52,000.00 - $72,500.00/year

Flat rate pay. Extra $5 per hour for warranty work. Paid weekly.

Body Shop / Metal Tech / Collision Repair Pay Range: $30,000.00 - $125,000.00/year

Flat rate and hourly positions available. Pay rate and type based on position, experience, and certs.
