Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Full building heat and air conditioning, with the exception of the truck service bays which do not have full a/c.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Truck Shop: Manager/Advisor, 2-3 other technicians Fuel Shop: Manager, 3-4 other technicians

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shift is typically 8am-5pm Monday-Friday. Shop hours are 7am-5:30pm Monday-Thursday and until 5pm on Friday.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Specialty and large tools are provided. Truck shop technicians need to provide their own hand tools. Fuel shop technicians will have all tools provided for them.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Two break rooms are available. Both have a fridge, sink, microwave, and seating areas. Two coffee machines are available as well.

How many bays does your shop have?

4 full size bays extra room left over. More bays are planned.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

200

What is your parts ordering process?

Fuel shop parts are approved by the shop manager and pulled by the technician. Truck shop part needs are presented to the service advisor or manager who will order and deliver the necessary parts.

What is your policy on side work?

Work on personal and family vehicles is allowed. Any grey area for-profit work needs to be approved by the owner.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

The truck shop and fuel shop work closely together to provide the best information and repairs available.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Absolutely. In-person and online training is both encouraged and 100% paid for by the company. If there is a particular area you would like more training on, we will gladly find that training for you.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We strongly encourage career growth and help you in achieving your goals as much as possible. We always strive to promote from within.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Reviews are conducted annually. Performance, productivity, and more is discussed throughout the year however.

What type of safety training is required?

There is no formal training.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Technicians work together to help and advance their skills. More knowledgeable technicians work side by side with other technicians as able.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

A portion of our proceeds gets donated to various organizations in our community.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Our shop is always open for tours and demonstrations. Tech schools often stop by with their students. We are also on the advisory board for local tech schools in an effort to advanced our industry.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We are primed for growth and plans are in place to expand our existing locations, along with adding additional locations and areas of expertise.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We have a paper application that takes around 10 minutes to complete. A digital application will be released soon.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

In-person interviews are preferred but a phone interview may be performed if the situation calls for it.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

In-person interviews are typically performed by the owner but sometime by the service manager. The interview includes giving a company overview, talking about the position, going a little deeper into background/experience, and a shop tour.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do not.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

There is no skill assessment as skill level is explored during the interview process. Skills will be formally assessed during the first 90 days of work.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

We aim to make an offer as quick as we can but it may take up to a week at times.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Around one week.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $14 - $16/hour

A Level Truck Shop Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical abilities. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop.
Pay Range: $50,000 - $75,000/year

B Level Truck Shop Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $40,000 - $50,000/year

C Level Truck Shop Technician
C Level Technicians are more of an entry level technician. C Level Technician responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, brake and suspension work, and other base level repairs. Has the ability to perform more difficult work with the help of other more advanced technicians.
Pay Range: $33,000 - $38,000/year
