Currently we have two shop foremen, 14 line technicians, 3 internal technicians, 2 express, and 2 apprentices.

You work 16 Saturdays per year with a day off Tuesday through Friday those weeks. What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We are sure to have all of the necessary Mercedes-Benz special tools that are organized using the Tool Org app. This requires the technician to check it out on their phone and can easily locate it with the same app. We also have at minimum one Xentry Computer for every two technicians.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Located on our second floor the room has plenty of natural light, vending machines, utensils, microwave and seating.

How many bays does your shop have?

We currently have 28 in total inclusive of 2 Sprinter lifts and one alignment rack. This will move to a total of 31 in April once we complete the extension for our Sprinter shop. The final count will be. 26 Passenger Car Lifts 1 Flat Bay 2 Sprinter Lifts 2 Alignment Racks

How many repair orders do you average per month?

Last year we had 13,072 repair orders completed. We have consistently been booked two months out so there is still plenty of work out there above and beyond this.

What is your parts ordering process?

I can guarantee this will be the best parts department you ever worked with! We have $1.5 million in inventory, 7,800 part numbers and 29,000 pieces! All this with nearly 0% obsolescence. If you are working on a cash ticket we use Service Price Guide religiously. This means 99% of the repairs you want to recommend are already pre loaded and can be done directly through an ASR or on your MPI. Our parts department works quickly to double check or add anything needed, sent to the advisor and sold. Once sold, they're ordered automatically by the parts department. All parts not in stock are added as an SOR and slips put into the dispatch office by our overnight stocker by 7am every day. We are a CDK dealership so the majority of items can simply pulled by putting in a PREQ. We also pre-pull any services or items sold on the initial write up. We VOR everything and dispatch receives copies of all parts that came in by 7 am every morning.

What is your policy on side work?

We do not allow individuals to work on our customer's cars outside the shop. The union contract provides more specific details on this.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

No matter your skill level we are obsessed with our technicians career development. Whether you're fresh out of school, new to the brand, or an experienced Mercedes-Benz expert we have a training plan for you. We developed an apprentice program with mentors from our great group of master technicians. We consistently send our team members to training at MB USA in Robbinsville as their growth means our growth.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

The President of our company started as a technician, our service director started as a technician. There are no glass ceilings with us. You simply need to put in the time and effort while constantly communicating your short and long term goals. We do our best to align ours with yours.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We have 30,60 and 90 day reviews once you start. After that we have quarterly reviews with your service director and foreman. We will also do a secondary review in either April or October in the event you have exceeded expectations in the previous six months and we would like to provide you a merit increase.

What type of safety training is required?

We do not have a specific safety training that is required. However, your first few days we will go through our basic safety requirements and best practices.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We do not allow for selfish behavior. You're either here for the team or your not. That means you help when you have the opportunity! However, we do have some individuals who are great at being mentors and we pair them with apprentices and express technicians to ensure their success. Most importantly, we reward them financially. Nothing is free, especially handing down knowledge!

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

This is an area we really want to improve. We have reached out to some of the local schools but failed to get responses. Our dealership does partner with some great charities but there is a ton of opportunity here.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We communicate with our local technical schools as our local high schools did not seem that receptive surprisingly. It's a great career and a large percentage of our technicians earned over 100k last year.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

I see the shop dynamically changing with the cars. The way we measure success will ultimately change and I believe the profession will become more specialized than ever.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

Just come talk to us! Whether it's a fit or not we would love to meet you. We really respect the craftsmanship, dedication, and abilities of the profession and want to help in anyway we can!

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Yes! It should take you no more than 5 to 10 minutes.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Briefly, but we are more concerned about an in-person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our ideal scenario would allow you to meet our Service Director, Service Manager, our shop foreman as well as the Vice President for the group. You would get to sit with them individually so that you can ask any questions you want and ensure consistently across the board. Our foreman will spend more time speaking about technical ability, our service managers about your daily process and our VP about your goals, motivations and personality traits.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Once the position has been offered we do go through background checks and drug screening.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Unless we have to schedule a second interview to meet with other team members we will inform you between 24 and 48 hours.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

It's contingent upon the interview process. We do actively look at applications daily and attempt to schedule interviews promptly.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $100.00 - $223.00/year

Our determination of what classifies as an A technician isn't simply time in the shop. We currently have two individuals under the age of 25 that we believe will be A technicians within the next 24 months. Can you produce consistently high quality work? Do you have a clear diagnostic process that allows you to quickly identify the issue at hand. Do you have extensive Mercedes-Benz brand knowledge? Are your repairs compliant? Can you work independently.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00/year

Our B-Technicians should have diagnostic fundamentals and know when to ask for help. Production and efficiency should be consistent.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00/year

Our C-Level technicians primarily work on our Internal team until they are promoted to be a line- technician. Here we expect them to be able to produce while collecting minimal guarantee. However, we are more concerned with the learning and development at this phase. The goal is to lay out basic diagnostic strategy and grow into a B level technician within 12 to 24 months.

Student Tech / Apprentice Pay Range: $19.00 - $23.00/hour

We pair you for 6 months with our most seasoned Master technician.

Lube Technician Pay Range: $23.00 - $26.00/hour

Focus needs to be quality of work, quality of work, quality of work. This isn't about speed because speed kills. Develop a clear process for Multi Point Inspection. A consistent routine. Review torque specs on wheels on every vehicle. Double check your work.
