What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
7:00am-7:00pm Monday-Thursday (4 different shifts available) 7:00am-6:00pm Friday 8:00am-5:00pm (Saturday), Rotating shift, one every three Saturdays
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Computer, specialty tools, major equipment, diagnostic machines (17 machines)
What type of break room facility is provided?
Fridge, microwave, table, chairs, coffee maker, TV Facelift coming
How many bays does your shop have?
28 bays in the main shop 3 sprinter bays 8 in the reconditioning facility
How many repair orders do you average per month?
2,000
What is your parts ordering process?
Technicians will use our My Kaarma estimating program to write up their inspections. That will get sent over to our parts department who will then get approval from one of our service advisors. Parts will then either get ordered, or pre-pulled, and put on the technicians side of the counter.
What is your policy on side work?
Personal and family vehicles only.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
We have a very experienced core group of managers around us. We try to provided a very balanced work and personal life for all of our employees. Schedules can be very flexible, with several different shifts available.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Currently we are in the process of opening up our own in-house training facility which should be complete by December. Continued education is very important to us and we will support any technician that wants to improve their skills set. We will send technicians to Mercedes-Benz trainings throughout the year, and we reimburse for any other certifications technicians want to obtain. Techs can send their manager a request, their manager will review the request and do what they can to make it happen.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Technicians that are engaged and work hard will have ample opportunities within our dealership group. We have 60 dealerships within about an hours drive. We will never hold a technician back if they want to work into a different position, or advance their own personal skills.
Can you describe your performance review process?
We typically provide annual reviews. If it's more of a junior technician reviews might be a little more consistent. Discussion during our reviews include pay increases, performance, productivity and what we can do to support their goals.
What type of safety training is required?
We have an outside company that comes in quarterly for safety inspections and training. There are also online training for additional training and certifications.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Entry level technicians will start in our express bays. As they work into different positions they will be teamed up with a more experience technicians and work side-by-side. Our experienced tech will be available to help with repairs and answer any additional questions. Both will be compensated during training time.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
Not as much as we would like to, but we are will look to get more involved in the future.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We try to stay involved with our local high schools by putting students through our summer programs and internships.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?
Development of our employees falls on the individual. If technicians show interest, work hard, are upfront and work well with our team there will always be opportunities here.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Our service and parts director conducts our phone screens. It's a light screen covering what the technician is looking to do and achieve in their career. We also like to start to get to know the person.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
In-person interviews are done by our service and parts director or shop manager. We dive deeper into the candidates resume, what positions they're interested in, career goals, work schedule and conclude with a shop tour.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Background check and drug screen.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
No official skills assessment. Skill sets are assessed during the interview process. We also typically do not have probationary periods.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Offers can be as quick as 24-48 hours, for the right candidate offers can be made before they leave.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Around a week if everything happens perfect, but usually about two weeks. A lot will depend on getting the background check and drug screen completed. Also, if the candidate is currently employed they may need to give a notice which we will work with.
Lube Technician
Pay Range: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00/year
Express Service technicians are guaranteed their individual available hours. (time worked less lunch break) Express Service technicians are also compensated for overtime hours per Massachusetts State Legislation.
A Level Technician
Pay Range: $95,000.00 - $150,000.00/year
Diagnostic technicians are paid fixed weekly however, they can exceed the guarantee and earn additional hours on a flat rate scale
B Level Technician
Pay Range: $65,000.00 - $100,000.00/year
B-Level Technicians are paid on a flat rate pay scale Additional compensation is available at the discretion of the Workshop Manager and Service Director
C Level Technician
Pay Range: $50,000.00 - $75,000.00/year
C-Level Technicians are paid on a flat rate pay scale Additional compensation is available at the discretion of the Workshop Manager and Service Director
