Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Yes, our shop is heated.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
Our team consist of four advisors, dispatch, and a variety of world-class, master, B & C technicians, and ASEP students.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Our shop is open Monday - Friday from 7:00am - 6:00pm. Typical shifts start around 7:00am and finish around 3:30pm. Lube technicians work Saturday's from 8:00am - Noon, on a rotation basis.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
We provide all GM special tools, fluid exchange machines, welding equipment, and tire and alignment equipment.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We have a large, air-conditioned breakroom with full kitchen amenities, along with a large flat screen TV for enjoyment.
How many bays does your shop have?
Our shop has 23 hoists.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
On average, we service roughly 1000 vehicles per month.
What is your parts ordering process?
Technicians are able to submit orders from their bays using user-friendly software. We use Tekion for all aspects like scheduling, ordering, and customer updates.
What is your policy on side work?
You are able to work on your own vehicle during time off, with an open repair order and management approval.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
We have a very active dispatching system and multiple support personnel to keep stalls filled with the right work at the right time. Our shop foreman is available to assist technicians with any unique circumstances or with repair questions.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We pay for GM training, ASE certifications, and are strong believers in ASEP program for technicians looking to take the next step.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
We always look to hire within and are committed to providing growth opportunities to our team.
Can you describe your performance review process?
We do monthly performance reviews with the service manager to ensure all voices are heard and concerns are addressed. Monthly technician team meetings are held to discuss any shop/dealer updates and provide collaboration amongst the department.
What type of safety training is required?
We use Comply Net for all safety training along with in-house support.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Our experienced technicians work one-on-one with students to provide real-world experience. The apprentice technicians flag times are shared with the mentor, as compensation for helping the next technician gain the skills they need.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
At Mauer Auto Group, we are heavily invested within our community. We host several events such as Toys for Tots Bike Build, Operation Warm, and get involved with a variety of other local community events.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We actively participate with Anoka High School STEP Program and quarterly host up to four students.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?
Mauer Auto Group provides travel (airfare, gas) and food assistance while you are training. You are also paid while you are training, either onsite or off campus.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Phone-screening is not required before an in-person interview is arranged. However, we like reaching out via phone to applicants prior to meeting with them to set up our interview expectations and logistics.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
You can expect a comfortable environment with the service manager and possibly other personnel such as Service Director, Operator, or HR representative joining your interview. Our interview style is all conversational with a series of questions that cover an array of topics so we can learn about your professional background and experience, along with your personal story. Interviews typically range from 20-45 minutes in length.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We perform driving and possibly other background checks, depending on the position.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
We do not perform any formal skill assessments before hiring, other than having necessary conversations to gauge all candidates' skills and professional background experience.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
After your initial in-person interview, you will be notified within 1 week time frame, one way or the other, via phone of our hiring decision. You may be asked to come in for a second-round interview, based on each candidate's circumstance.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Typically, our process from application to hiring decision ranges from 3 days - 2 weeks.

Master Technician
Pay Range: $65,000.00 - $100,000.00/year
($31.25 - $48.08/hr)
Master Technicians are guaranteed hourly pay, plus productivity commission.
Entry-Level Technician
Pay Range: $37,000.00 - $50,000.00/year
($17.79 - $24.04/hr)
Entry Level Technicians are guaranteed hourly pay, plus productivity commission.
Diesel Technician
Pay Range: $83,000.00 - $125,000.00/year
($39.90 - $60.10/hr)
Diesel Technician are guaranteed hourly pay, plus productivity commission.
World Class Technician
Pay Range: $83,000.00 - $120,000.00/year
($39.90 - $57.69/hr)
A Level Technicians are guaranteed hourly pay, plus productivity commission.
