Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Our shop is heated. We use wall-mounted fans and leave the bay doors open on warm days.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Currently we have 29 automotive technicians

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop hours are M-F 6:00am to 2:30pm. Overtime is available as needs dictate. Employees have a 15 minute morning break and a 30 minute lunch period.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide light mechanical services to our clients. Pullers and diagnostic scanners are available for all technicians to use.

What type of break room facility is provided?

The break room in the shop has seating capacity for 9. We provide microwaves, a refrigerator, water cooler, coffee maker, snack and soda vending machines. There are 4 bathrooms cleaned daily and the breakroom is cleaned daily. A large employee cafeteria is available at the main building to order breakfast or lunch as desired, offering freshly made breakfasts, soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and french fries.

How many bays does your shop have?

We have a total of 30 bays

How many repair orders do you average per month?

On average, we perform 2200 repair orders per month, 800 pre-sale certifications per month and 200 frame checks per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

The mechanic assesses parts needed for maintenance or repair and forwards to the estimator for price and availability. The estimate is sent to the client for approval and approved parts are ordered through the Procurement department.

What is your policy on side work?

We do not allow any side work to be performed on our property.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Our location is 550 acres of vehicles in various stages preparing for auction. Mechanics are sometimes called upon to be mobile, helping with pre-sale certifications, post-sale maintenance, and EV battery testing.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Cox Automotive offers ASE training including engine repair, transmission, drive train, axles, suspension and steering, brakes, heating and air conditioning, electrical systems and engine performance certifications. We use Car Quest training resources to keep you up to date on later model cars, electric vehicles and new technology. We also offer tuition assistance for specific business-related degrees to all regular FT employees who have completed 6 months of continuous service and are satisfactorily performing in their role. Such financial support is intended to enhance employees’ professional development and their skills and knowledge related to our business. Both the employee and the company should benefit from this educational investment.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Employees have the opportunity for one on one conversations with their supervisors at least 4 times a year to discuss performance and set goals. The employee drives the process!

What type of safety training is required?

Auction industry-specific safety training is completed and renewed yearly including battery safety training. Employees are encouraged to participate on our Safety Committee which meets monthly to review safety protocol and identify best practices.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our Techs work together, so skill development happens organically! Techs new to the industry are paired with an industry veteran to learn the ropes and develop their skills.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We support several community events each year, including parades and sporting events. Our most significant involvement is the hosting of the annual Mother's Day Make-a-Wish Truck Convoy, the largest fundraising event for the Susquehanna Valley Make-a-Wish Chapter. Our Convoy Carnival helps to fund over 75% of the wishes granted by this chapter every year.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We have established relationships with local Career and Technology Centers including post secondary technical training schools by attending career fairs, speaking to students in classrooms and hiring students for summer work.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Growth has been the number one constant at our location! With 29 bays and ever-changing technology and equipment, our employees are constantly learning and growing their skills. Our client service team regularly sources additional clients as well as increasing the volume with current clients. We service dealer, wholesale and retail clients, providing us with consistent revenue streams.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Our application can be found at and takes under 15 minutes to complete.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

When the application is submitted online, a recruiter will contact the candidate to set up a phone screen conversation. If you are a good fit and interested in the position, the recruiter will connect you with the hiring manager for an in-person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

The hiring manager conducts the in-person interviews to get to know you and tell you a little about our culture. We will describe the work, the work environment and the expectations for your role. Our interviews tend to be conversations, not simply question and answer sessions. We want you to feel at ease- that way we can get to know you better!

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

If you are offered a position, we will conduct a background check and 10 panel drug screening which must be passed before you are ready to hire. We do not require personality tests for this position.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not require a traditional skills assessment. The Hiring Manager will assess your ability to do the work through questions and conversation during the in-person interview.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Typically a decision to offer or reject a candidate is made within 24 hours of the in-person interview.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

An offer is typically made within 24 hours of the interview and the background check and drug screening can add 2-3 weeks, depending on the depth and content of the background screen.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

Our recruiting team is singularly focused on sourcing and vetting good candidates to join our team! They do not have other priorities to distract them from communicating with the candidates and the hiring managers, so decisions are made quickly and the candidate is informed every step of the way.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $37,107 - $66,892/year ($17.84 - $32.16/hr)

C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.

Dental Insurance Offered
To help keep your pearly whites healthy, Cox offers two Aetna PPO/PDN dental network options. The SCHEDULE (BASIC) PLAN pays the cost of eligible expenses based on the set fee schedule found in the Healthcare Summary Plan Description. If your dentist charges more than the plan schedule allows, you pay the difference. The plan is designed to cover your basic dental needs. The COMPREHENSIVE PLAN pays a percentage of most recognized charges after you meet your deductible.
Vision Insurance Offered
In addition to helping you see better at work and play, routine eye exams can detect serious health conditions, such as glaucoma, cataracts, diabetes and even cancer. Eye exams are especially important for kids, as they can detect problems that affect learning and development. Cox offers vision coverage through the Vision Service Plan (VSP) Choice Network.

Sick Leave Offered
We all need time away from work to recharge, travel, take care of our health, care for a family member, attend appointments or do the many things that are important to each of us personally. So rather than have two categories of paid time off: sick and vacation, we have combined sick and vacation as PTO (paid time off) that is accrued monthly based on years of service and can be taken in 1 hour increments. Vacation Offered
Our Paid Time Off (PTO) Plan aims to provide eligible employees the flexibility to manage these needs for time off in the way that best makes sense for you. PTO is in addition to other paid leave policies, such as paid holidays, bereavement, short term disability and parental leave. Payment of PTO will be based upon your base salary, base hourly rate, or average hourly rate (for employees paid on a piece rate or flag hour basis) and may be borrowed from your unaccrued "bank" under certain circumstances. Don't use all of your accrued PTO by the end of the calendar year? Employees are eligible to receive a pay out of up to 40 hours of unused PTO : any amount over the 40 hours will be lost and not carried over from one calendar year to the next.
Paid Holidays Offered
Regular, full-time employees are eligible for seven paid holidays annually! So along with your accrued PTO a FT employee receives the following (paid) holiday: *New Year’s Day *MLK Day *Memorial Day *Independence Day *Labor Day *Thanksgiving Day *Christmas Day
ST / LT Disability Offered
Short Term Disability (STD) pay is available to help you when a nonwork related illness or injury keeps you out of work for more than 7 calendar days, including if you are disabled due to pregnancy or childbirth. Regular full-time employees are eligible for STD at 100% of your base salary for up to 26 weeks, depending on your years of service. We also offer two Long-Term Disability LTD) insurance options for full-time employees, available immediately for enrollment at the time of hire or when making your benefit elections during Open Enrollment. This coverage pays you a percentage of your income if you become totally disabled, can no longer work and are approved for LTD.
Life Insurance Offered
We’ve expanded optional insurance coverages for you and your family through MetLife. You can opt to purchase even higher levels of supplemental coverage than in prior years, offering your loved ones greater support when they need it the most. When you elect employee and/or dependent life insurance, you receive an equal amount of accidental death and dismemberment coverage. It provides additional benefits for accidental injuries including the loss of a limb, eyesight or death due to an accident. A Statement of Health may be required to purchase additional life insurance.
