Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Our shop is heated and air conditioned.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We currently have 8 Mainline techs, 2 Used Car Techs, 3 Apprentice techs, and 1 Recall/Accessory Tech.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We are open from 7:00am-6:00pm Monday-Friday and 7:30am-4:00pm on Saturdays. We offer multiple shifts.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

The shop provides all specialty tools needed for the job. The Technicians bring their own non-specialty tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Our break room has a TV, microwave, refrigerator, sink, counter space, cabinets, and a table with chairs.

How many bays does your shop have?

We have 19 bays and 2 alignment bays.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average about 2000-2300 repair orders a month

What is your parts ordering process?

Our Techs use Xtime Inspect for their work orders and ordering parts. So they never have to leave their work area to order parts. They are ordered by job electronically and questions can be asked with the chat feature if needed. Pictures can also be taken of failed parts.

What is your policy on side work?

Side work is prohibited unless otherwise authorized.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We have an Apprentice program to pair an entry-level Technician with a Master Certified Technician. If interested, we will send a Technician to outside training with American Honda if they want to work towards Master Certified status.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Absolutely. We want to grow our Technicians from within - starting as a valet and growing into a Master Certified Technician. Also, should Honda not be the product for you, we have 2 other sister stores where transferring is a possibility.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Our performance review process is ongoing. We are in constant communication with all staff members so hopefully there are very few questions regarding standing within the Service Department.

What type of safety training is required?

No safety training is required ahead of time.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our current Apprentice program takes a Lube Technician after a few years into a recall/accessory installation Technician. After a year with this experience, he/she will work directly with a Master Certified Technician for a minimum of 1 year. As confidence builds and at the discretion of the Master Technician, the Apprentice will move to flat rate and working on their own. All the while knowing, everyone is around to answer questions.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are very involved with the local college with an Automotive Technology program. We also as a Dealership are involved in the local Chamber, Hillcrest Transitional Housing and some other local charities.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are very interactive with Metropolitan Community College - Longview campus. This school is a couple of miles down the road from our dealership. We are involved in career fairs, have scholarship programs and work directly to employ high quality students while they are attending the school.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We have the space to grow a couple more bays should we have the work and Technicians to fill it. American Honda is starting to roll out Electric Vehicles and will need knowledge for these vehicles as well.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Our application is 4 pages and can be completed within 5-10 minutes depending on the depth that the Applicant has.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We always prefer to perform in-person interviews but can accommodate phone conversations should that be preferred.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Generally, we want to know skill-level, employment history, why did they choose Automotive Technician as a career and overall interest.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do perform background checks, drug screening and driving record before an official offer will be made.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No we don't perform skill assessments.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Our decision process is normally fairly quick. We should let you know an answer within a few days. We are very upfront and give a time expectation at the end of the conversation.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

From what we have seen, the full hiring process is can be done within a week or so. The longest part is often the screenings and receiving results from the State and UAs. Should it take longer than expected, we do have Contingent offerings available.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $65,000 - $100,000/year

They are paid by the flat rate hour. We max our pay out for a ASE Master Certified Technician.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $42,000 - $53,000/year

They are paid by the flat rate hour. Max pay is up to the desire of the Technician.

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $37,500 - $40,000/year

They are paid by the flat rate hour. Max pay is up to the desire of the Technician. Most of our Apprentice Technicians are this level.

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $30,000 - $35,500/year

The opportunity for a raise once the Technician becomes licensed with the State of Missouri for Vehicle Inspections. We have a whole career path that defines and provides multiple opportunities for growth in pay as growth in skill increases.

Health Insurance Offered
Group health insurance is available to any full-time employee. Coverage will become effective on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. We offer multiple plan options with United Healthcare. Lee's Summit Honda contributes to the price. All pricing depends on the plan chosen by the Employee.
Dental Insurance Offered
Group dental insurance is available to any full-time employee. Coverage will become effective on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. We have a Base and Buy-Up plan design with Metlife. All pricing depends on the plan chosen by the Employee.
Vision Insurance Offered
Group vision insurance is available to any full-time employee. Coverage will become effective on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. We have coverage through Metlife. All pricing depends on the plan chosen by the Employee.
Retirement Plan Offered
Employees are eligible to participate in the 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan following 1 year of Employment and are 21 years old. The dealership matches Employee contributions up to 1.5%.
Sick Leave Offered
The dealership allows employees 3 paid personal days per year calculated on the employee’s anniversary date. This can be used as sick days, PTO or any other time off needed.
Vacation Offered
An employee is eligible for vacation days after they have been employed with us for one year. The days are listed below: 1 year 5 days 2 years 10 days 3 years 11 days 4 years 12 days 5 years 13 days 6 years 14 days 7 years+ 15 days
Paid Holidays Offered
Full-time employees who have completed 90 days of employment are eligible for holiday pay. Below are the holidays that we observe: New Year's Day Memorial Day Independence Day Labor Day Thanksgiving Day Christmas Eve Christmas Day
ST / LT Disability Offered
Short Term and Long Term Disability is available to any full-time employee. Coverage will become effective on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. We coverage through Metlife. All pricing depends on the plan chosen by the Employee.
Life Insurance Offered
Group life insurance is available to all full-time employees. Premiums for group life insurance are paid in full by the dealership. Coverage will become effective on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. The benefit paid to the Beneficiary is $15,000. There are options through Metlife to buy additional Life Insurance should the Employee choose to do so.
Uniforms Offered
The cost of the uniforms is shared equally by the dealership and the employee. We work with a company to collect and return clean uniforms weekly.
Other Offered
Supplemental Insurance is available to any full-time employee on a pre-tax basis. Coverage will become effective on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. We coverage through Metlife.Coverage includes: accident, critical illness, hospitalization, etc. All pricing depends on the plan chosen by the Employee.
