Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated, and has big fans to keep it comfortable no matter what the weather.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have 8 main shop techs and 4 quick service techs

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop hours are 7am-6pm Monday - Friday, and 7am-4pm Saturday There is a 5-day work week, with every other Saturday off!

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We have 2 of everything! We are also willing to get equipment if ever needed by our techs. Our shop has all Hunter brand equipment.

What type of break room facility is provided?

The break room has a table, chairs for about 10 people, big screen TV, refrigerator, 3 microwaves, sink, filtered water, and Keurig

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

6 of our 8 technicians are Master Techs! We have a strong, supportive team that is here to mentor and support new technicians. We have a dedicated quick service area as well.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Training is mandatory to ensure our technicians are up-to-date with their skills and knowledge. We offer both online and instructor-led training.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We promote from within whenever possible! Over half of our shop staff started in an entry level position and has been promoted or grown into another role.

Performance reviews are provided one-on-one as needed

Online safety training is provided

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a growth plan for newer techs. They are able to learn from Master techs and will work with more than one Master Techs to learn a variety of skills.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Landers McLarty Nissan donates money to local charities in addition to supplying the means to host events around Huntsville. We sponsor local schools and partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We have a partnership with a local automotive technical program.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We plan to continue to be the #1 Nissan shop in Alabama!

We try to directly schedule in-person interviews

What do your in-person interviews entail?

They will be a meeting with the Service Manager and possibly one other staff member. We will get to know the candidate and allow them to get to know us! The conversation can last anywhere from 30-60 minutes.

We conduct background checks and drug screenings

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $61,000 - $130,000/year

Compensation is flat rate and based on efficiency, experience, and training. A Level technicians should have Nissan experience.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $46,000 - $53,000/year

Compensation is flat rate and based on efficiency, experience, and training.

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $34,000 - $41,000/year

Compensation is flat rate and based on efficiency, experience, and training.

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $24,000 - $52,000/year

Compensation can be up to $1000/week! Lube technicians will work in teams of 2 people.

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $65,000 - $100,000/year

Compensation for Service Advisor is based on experience and efficiency. This is a base salary plus commission.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $0 - $0/hour

We are always looking for apprentices who want to grow with us! You will be able to learn from a variety of master technicians. This is a great way to get experience and knowledge in the industry.
