What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
We currently have 14 technicians and three advisors. We will be adding two more technicians and one additional advisor in the next 60 days.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Shop hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. NO WEEKENDS!!!
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
We have specialty tools, powertrain equipment, new hose reels, new extension cord reels, new water hose reels, EV charging stations, and much more. We just purchased approximately $150,000 in new shop equipment and put in 12 brand new lifts.
What type of break room facility is provided?
There is a technician changing/locker room that was recently remodeled, and we have a break/conference room available for anybody that would like to use it.
How many bays does your shop have?
We have 34 bays
How many repair orders do you average per month?
Around 1400-1500
What is your parts ordering process?
We use XTime, but all technicians are encouraged to have face-to-face meetings with the parts personnel as needed. XTime is a digital communication and route sheet platform that allows for digital communication between parts, service advisors, and technicians.
What is your policy on side work?
We allow side work outside of the dealership as long as they are not current Laird Noller customers.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We offer training through both Ford and Mazda for most roles within the dealership. This training is at no cost to the employee. We love to see our people grow!
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
There are plenty of opportunities throughout the company, and we promote from within!
Can you describe your performance review process?
Performance reviews are conducted annually on their employment anniversary for all employees.
What type of safety training is required?
Safety training is conducted by the shop foreman and the service manager, and there is additional safety training through compliance and manufacturer training.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Experienced technicians are encouraged to mentor younger technicians, and placement throughout the shop is designed to place experienced technicians next to our younger technicians to make mentoring more natural and productive.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
Laird Noller is a well known name in the community and is heavily involved with many charities, trade schools, colleges, and more.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We sit on the board at Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center in Lawrence, Kansas, and we are involved with the Ford Top Tech program, which both encourage younger individuals to grow in the automotive trades.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?
We have paid training for all employees. This helps our team to be the best in the industry! There are free courses available in person through Dwayne Peaslee Technical Training Center, as well as manufacturer specific training through Ford and Mazda.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
In person interviews are preferred, but accommodations for schedule or location can be made.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
A brief 15-30 minute discussion with the service manager, and customer facing roles will have a follow up interview with the dealership's management team.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We do require background checks and drug screens prior to a formal offer of employment.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Depending on the role, skill assessments may be necessary, and may vary depending on the applicant.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
After an in-person interview, hiring decisions are generally made within one week.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
The hiring process can take up to two weeks, depending on the number of applicants, the role being filled, and background check and drug screen results.
B Level Technician
Pay Range: $25.00 - $32.00/hour
Flat rate, paid bi-weekly, other compensation may be discussed based on the candidate
C Level Technician
Pay Range: $20.00 - $24.00/hour
Flat rate, paid bi-weekly, other compensation may be discussed based on the candidate
Service Advisor
Pay Range: $50.00 - $120.00/year
Based on average salary + commission, paid bi-monthly, additional compensation may be discussed based on the candidate
Student Tech / Apprentice
Pay Range: $15.00 - $16.00/hour
Paid hourly bi-weekly
A Level Technician
Pay Range: $35.00 - $45.00/hour
Flat rate, paid bi-weekly, other compensation may be discussed based on the candidate
Lube Technician
Pay Range: $16.00 - $21.00/hour
Flat rate, paid bi-weekly, other compensation may be discussed based on the candidate
