Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Yes, the shop is heated. We do not have A/C but we do have 5 Big Ass fans that help circulate air nicely in the summer

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

25-30 technicians plus office staff and management.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday-Friday 7am - 8pm, Saturday 8am - 3pm Shift 1 - 7am - 4pm Shift 2 - 11am - 8pm

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Laptops, workbenches, wheel chocks, jacks, jack stands, AC recovery machines, Alignment equipment, all OEM required tools. We have a room dedicated to OEM specific tools that are provided for our technicians to use. OEM and All-Makes diagnostics software and much more.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Break room with table and chairs, microwave, vending machines, coffee bar, tv, etc.

How many bays does your shop have?

30

How many repair orders do you average per month?

600 plus RO's per month

What is your parts ordering process?

We have an electronic parts ordering process that can be done from the comfort of your bay.

What is your policy on side work?

Not acceptable.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Our company is family owned and operated and makes for a great environment. Many of our technicians know the owners and talk to them weekly. YOU ARE NOT just a number at Kyrish Truck Centers.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes, being a dealer one of the great benefits is all of the OEM (factory) training you will recieve from various OE's and vendors. The biggest to mention are International and Cummins. We have a learning management system to perform on-line training as well as hands on courses that we send our technicians to.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We are always looking to promote from with in so starting as a technican although can be a wonderful career is just the beginning of the journey. Opportunities would be shop foreman, service advisor, service manager, or into other department of our dealership including parts department and sales.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We do annual performance reviews on all employees.

What type of safety training is required?

Quarterly safety training is required.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have created a "team" environment that allows for the growth of young techncians. Our seasoned technicans paired with an apprentice is how we bring you along as well as the supervision of our foreman and managment.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We participate in blood drives, driver appreciation week, technician appreciation week. Donations to charity and families in need at Christmas as well as many other events.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are involved all throughout the year at tech school career fair events and employer spotlight days. Some schools to mention that we are involved with are Texas State Technical College, UTI in Houston and Austin as well as San Jacinto College.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Continuing to meet our customer needs by growing the next generation of technicians.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Yes we do have an electronic application form that takes about 10 minutes to fill out.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes we do phone interviews

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Meeting with our Service Manager / Director to go over job description and requirements, tour of the facility if requested and answer any questions the new employee may have about the job.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes, we perform back ground checks, a drug screen, driver license check and require a physical exam as well.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not always perform a skill assessment however, we do have one available.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Within 2 business days

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Just a couple of days.

Level 1 Technician Pay Range: $41,600 - $52,000/year ($20.00 - $25.00/hr)

Beginner technician with little to no experience in the diesel technology field. Typically start as Lube or PM technician.

Level 2 Technician Pay Range: $52,000 - $62,400/year ($25.00 - $30.00/hr)

Typically has some diesel technology experience but very minimal. Responsibilities include basic maintenance, suspension, brake work along with other base level repairs.

Level 3 Technician Pay Range: $62,400 - $72,800/year ($30.00 - $35.00/hr)

Skilled in mechanical repair and while not their specialty have some diagnostic skill. This level of technician generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.

Level 4 Technician Pay Range: $72,800 - $83,200/year ($35.00 - $40.00/hr)

Highly skilled and are strong in diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has more years of experience and educations and has a variety of certifications from differing OEM's/vendors.

Level 5 Technician Pay Range: $83,200 - $135,000/year

We view a level 5 technician as the highest skilled technician. Can be trusted with all levels of repair and diagnostic work. Level 5 technicians have completed all Navistar (Diamond Certified) and Cummins trainings and are also require to be ASE certified.
