Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Our shop is not climate controlled, however we have larges fans to help keep things cool.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

9 technicians (6 service technicians and 3 lube technicians), 4 service advisors

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop hours are: Monday- Friday 7am to 6pm Saturday 7am to 4pm Shifts may be 7am to 4pm, 8am to 5pm or 9am to 6pm

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Kia specialty tools, brake lathe, lifts, A/C machines, flush machines, general shop supplies.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have 2 break rooms available for our technicians.

How many bays does your shop have?

12 bays

How many repair orders do you average per month?

Between 700-1,000 RO's each month

What is your parts ordering process?

Technicians order their parts through Xtime Inspect.

What is your policy on side work?

Technicians may work on their own vehicles with the approval of the Service Director and a Repair Order must be opened.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We have a wonderful, team environment. As a dealership, we are closed on Sundays (even sales) as we are big believers in work/life balance. We also enjoy treating our team to BBQ's when we achieve team goals and to show our appreciation.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Technicians have opportunities to become Kia certified through web training courses and in-person classes.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We offer lots of opportunities to grow based on individual interests and skills.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We believe in continuous feedback. We do daily huddles to review individual and team metrics. We are working on a more formalized monthly performance review process (HPI's- Hello Performance Indicators).

What type of safety training is required?

We provide quarterly safety walk-throughs and quarterly trainings conducted by Celly services.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a shop foreman that works with new technicians coming onboard. We are open to considering students that have completed automotive programs.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Hello Auto Group is big on supporting the community that supports us. Some of the organizations and events we have been a part of include: Santa's Helpers Program (with JCI) and Wish Foundation/Hart School District. This year we are doing our 1st backpack drive with the goal of donating 300 new backpacks with school supplies to children in the community.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We have a relationship with College of the Canyons and have attended career fairs at the College.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We hope to expand the shop with more bays with continued success. We hope to see our technicians achieve Master Technician and ASE certifications.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, candidates can expect a brief phone screen with Human Resources or our Service Manager.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

In-person interviews are conducted by our Assistant Service Manager and Service Director. Technicians might also meet with our Shop Foreman. During the interview, we'd like to learn more about your previous experience and what you are looking for in your next role.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes, candidates can expect to complete an AVA profile. This is an assessment that helps us learn more about your work style. Once an offer is made, candidates must successfully complete a background check and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not perform a skills assessment. Please bring copies of your certifications as these are very helpful in demonstrating your skill level.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

If we decide to make an offer, we will generally reach out 24-48 hours after your interview.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

For most positions, we hope to make a hire in one to two weeks.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $62,400 - $72,800/year ($30.00 - $35.00/hr)

$30-$35 hourly rate + Production Bonus ($30-$35 flag hour)

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $37,440 - $41,600/year ($18.00 - $20.00/hr)

$18-$20 hourly rate

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $33,280 - $41,600/year ($16.00 - $20.00/hr)

Starting at $16/hr. Great entry-level position!

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $41,600 - $72,800/year ($20.00 - $35.00/hr)

$20/hr-$35/hr depending on experience. Automotive experience isn't necessary. Excellent customer service skills are a must!

Health Insurance Offered
Hello Auto Group offers Health Insurance plans through United Healthcare. Employees have the choice between HMO and PPO plans. Hello Auto Group contributes towards employee health insurance. Employees pay a portion of health insurance coverage and have the option to cover their spouse, children or family. For new hires, health insurance is effective the 1st of the month following 60 days of employment.
Dental Insurance Offered
Hello Auto Group offers voluntary dental insurance. Employees have the choice of a Dental HMO Plan through CalDental or Dental PPO plan through Unum. For new hires, dental insurance is effective the 1st of the month following 60 days of employment.
Vision Insurance Offered
Hello Auto Group offers voluntary vision insurance through Unum (EyeMed network). For new hires, vision insurance is effective the 1st of the month following 60 days of employment.
Retirement Plan Offered
Hello Auto Group offers a 401k plan through Principal. This is a great way to save for retirement! Hello Auto Group offers an employer match! New hires are eligible to participate in the 401k plan following 90 days of employment.
Sick Leave Offered
Hello Auto Group offers 48 hours of sick leave annually. Sick leave resets on January 1st.
Vacation Offered
Vacation time accrues as follows: From date of hire to 5 years of employment, employees accrue approximately 2 weeks (80 hours) of vacation time per year. Vacation accrues at a rate of 3.33 hours per pay period. Beginning at year 6 of employment, employees accrue approximately 3 weeks (120 hours) of vacation time per year. Vacation accrues at 5.00 hours per pay period. Vacation cap is 120 hours.

ST / LT Disability Offered
Employees are eligible for State Disability Insurance (SDI) through the State of California. Hello Auto Group offers voluntary, supplemental Short Term Disability coverage through Unum.

Uniforms Offered
Uniforms are provided for technicians. Service Advisors wear Hello Auto polo shirts. We provide 3 polos at hire.
Other Offered
Hello Auto Group provides employees with 2 volunteer days per year. Employees can use this time to take off of work and volunteer in the community and still get paid!
