Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

We have fans mounted on i-beams that osculate to generate air flow and space heaters in the event that it gets cold in Florida.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

You'd be 1 of 4 Technicians, 2 Service Advisors and working directly with the owner.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday. NO WEEKENDS!!!

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

The shop has 3 scan tools, scope capabilities including in cylinder pressure analysis, tire and alignment machines, R134A and 1234YF A/C recovery machines, and all other general shop tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Yes. It has a full size refrigerator, microwave, kitchen sink with garbage disposal and lunch table with counter space. Very comfortable space for your break times. We also have a bathroom with a shower for our Techs.

How many bays does your shop have?

We have 8 bays, including the alignment bay.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average around 300 ROs per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

Our Service Advisors handle all of the parts ordering for our team.

What is your policy on side work?

If you'd like to use the shop, you can work on your own cars or family members.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer classes through Carquest Technical Institute, WorldPac Training Institute and AC Delco Training. We value technical training to improve the skill level of our team. We also offer different types of technical and management training through the Automotive Service Association.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We view the growth opportunities to be endless. Each individual is going to have different career desires and levels of ambition. We will provide all the tools you need grow to reach your maximum potential.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We don't currently have a process but are working through a more formalized process.

What type of safety training is required?

No formal safety training but we do ask that our team operate in a safe manner.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We typically have a younger Tech work directly with our Shop Foreman to assist them with any questions they might have and to provide guidance.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We make charitable contributions to non-profits, participate in fund raising events and the Owner is very involved with the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce. JJ, our owner, is on the board for ASA Florida.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We're actively involved with Jones Technical College, we've hired from their school and have a great relationship with their team.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

To continue our reputation as Jacksonville's premier independent repair shop.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

JJ, our owner, is on the board for the Automotive Service Association of Florida and is actively involved in coordinating live and online training events.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Yes. It's a simple form that typically takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, we will have a conversation over the phone prior to doing an in-person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

You'll do a sit down with the Owner of the shop to have a discussion about your experience and get to know you.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

No. We like to get a feel for the person throughout the interview process.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We have a checklist of skills that aids us in assessing your skill level.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

1 to 2 days.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Our decision process is pretty quick. It typically happens in 1 to 2 days.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

At the end of each of interview, we like to take the candidate on a shop tour to show them around the facilities and meet the team.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $65,000 - $85,000/year

We view an A Level Tech as capable of all types of diagnostics and repairs. We pay on a flat rate scale. We have productivity bonuses based on the amount of hours produced.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $45,000 - $55,000/year

We view a B Level Tech as capable of basic diagnostics and repairs. B Level Techs should be able to perform HVAC work, steering, alignment, brakes and all other general repair. We pay on a flat rate scale. We have productivity bonuses based on the amount of hours produced.

There will be options for dental insurance as an add on to our health insurance plan.

There will be options for vision insurance as an add on to our health insurance plan.

We offer a Simple IRA and we match up to 3%.

We offer 1 week after 1 year and 2 weeks after 2 years and beyond.
Paid Holidays Offered
We are closed, with pay, on the following days. Christmas Eve Christmas Day New Years Day New Years Eve (when if falls on a 4 day weekend) Thanksgiving (4 day weekend, we close on the Friday after Thanksgiving) 4th of July
