Both shops are climate controlled

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

15 Main shop techs 6-8 quick lube techs

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We are open Monday - Friday 7am to 6:00 pm Our techs work 7am-4:30pm OR 8:30 am -6 pm Techs work one Saturday a month 7-3:30pm and are given a day off the following week.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All special tools from GM, flush machines from BG, jacks, MDIs and laptops.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have two breakrooms available for technicians that includes refrigerators, microwave, vending machines, sink, cable tv and seating.

How many bays does your shop have?

36 bays We have two shops on our campus. 12 climate-controlled bays in our upper shop, 18 climate-controlled bays in our main shop and 4 open air bays heat tubes provided and wall mounted big ass fans included in our truck shop and 2 quick lube racks.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

1500+

What is your parts ordering process?

Parts quotes are generated through our SPG in our Reynolds DMS. Once the advisor completes the sale, the parts dept. orders parts. The entire process in completed electronically.

What is your policy on side work?

We do not allow side work to be completed on the premises.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We have a "tech of the month" award that afford the winner a special parking space, recognition and a free detail for them or their significant other. We will repair or replace equipment whenever needed no matter the cost. The technician's safety and comfort are one of our top concerns.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We promote GM training as the main educational platform. We do occasionally participate in other training, when available (Ie- Hunter, BG)

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We have a very clear path of advancement for every level of technician that joins our team. Every technician that shows the drive, ambition and ability will be given an opportunity to advance all the way up to World class technician.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Our reviews are not held at a particular time of year or tenure. The Service Director meets one-on-one with each technician every week to discuss performance and hours turned.

What type of safety training is required?

Automotive lift safety and hazardous materials safety training provided by Compliance Center Inc.;

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have senior techs that will be working with up-and-coming young technicians that show the promise to develop into a future leader tech. Most trainees will be performing operations on their own with guidance from their senior peers.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Jim Hudson has been serving the greater Columbia area for over 42 years with a strong commitment to the community. Over the course of 11 years, they've donated 10,000,000 meals to the Harvest Hope Food Bank through their annual Jim Hudson 2,000 Event. The Automotive Group also provides shelter, food, clothing and counseling to homeless women and children by donating to the Oliver Gospel Mission for their new construction of Toby's Place facility. Jim Hudson has also contributed over $200,000 to the American Red Cross and donates regularly to other local charities including the Special Olympics, D.A.R.E., The South Carolina Troopers Association and the American Red Cross. In addition, Jim Hudson has personally served as a sponsor for the charitable organizations of Sunshine for Children, The American Heart Association, The National Kidney Foundation, Meals on Wheels and The Boy Scouts of American Indian Waters Council. In recognition for all his charitable work, Jim Hudson was presented with the Order of the Palmetto by Governor Nikki R. Haley, the state's highest honor, for his extraordinary work and dedication to the citizens of SC.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We will be working with local high schools, technical centers and colleges.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

A $1 million check was presented to Augusta Technical College today by the Jim Hudson Auto Group. The money will be used to develop a new automotive training center in the Laney Walker area. The existing facility on the Augusta Tech campus is roughly 10,000 square feet. The new facility will be six times the size, at roughly 65,000 square feet. That will make way for over 1,250 students to get training in 16 certification programs that will be offered there. It will become the largest automotive training center in the state. Augusta National Golf Club and Jim Hudson Lexus each committed $1 million to the project back in April. The automotive group’s $1 million donation will help Augusta Tech become the flagship location for extensive automotive training in the areas of electrical/hybrid technology, heavy and light duty diesel, auto body and collusion repair, motorsports technology, and a host of other emerging technologies in the automotive industry. Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

If they applicant is from out of the area, we welcome a phone call to discuss and answer any questions..

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Typically, the interview occurs one-on-one with the Service Director. In some cases, we will invite a senior technician or the General Manager to meet with the applicant as well.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do check backgrounds for criminal history, driving records and perform a drug test prior to hire.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Once the background checks are processed, typically 2-3 days. in some cases, an offer may be made the same day.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

This is dependent on the applicant and timing of the interview.

Student Tech / Apprentice Pay Range: $25,000.00 - $50,000.00/year ($12.02 - $24.04/hr)

We have a complete career path available for qualified candidates.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $40.00 - $60.00/hour

Productivity bonus up to $5/ hour offered each week 1.5 times warranty rate paid on Warranty repairs. If GM pays 2.4 hour for a Warranty repair, we will pay you the 2.4 + another 1.2 hours for a total of 3.6 hours.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $28.00 - $40.00/hour

Productivity bonus up to $5/ hour offered each week 1.5 times warranty rate paid on Warranty repairs. If GM pays 2.4 hour for a Warranty repair, we will pay you the 2.4 + another 1.2 hours for a total of 3.6 hours.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $20.00 - $28.00/hour

Productivity bonus up to $5/ hour offered each week. 1.5 times warranty rate paid on Warranty repairs. If GM pays 2.4 hour for a Warranty repair, we will pay you the 2.4 + another 1.2 hours for a total of 3.6 hours.

Great night out celebrating our technicians by attending a cooking class. We made pasta from scratch and completed a full Italian dinner. It was a great time and our techs made a delicious dinner. We went to "let's Cook" in downtown Columbia to celebrate our team's success.
