Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Shop does have heat. We are looking into the possibility of A/C in the future.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

The Service and Parts Departments typically employee around 15-18 people.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday-Friday 8AM - 5:30PM. Saturday 8AM - 1PM.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We have required GM special service tools including a new Hunter Hawkeye Elite Alignment Machine, new Drive-On 4-Post lift, Hummer EV 12,000lb 2-Post.

What type of break room facility is provided?

N/A

How many bays does your shop have?

The Main Shop has 12 bays, the Maintenance Shop has 3 bays, 1 Detail bay.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

Approximately 600-800. We have averaged as many as 1200 in the past, with the proper staff.

What is your parts ordering process?

Technician is given the ticket by dispatching Advisor or Service Manager, diagnoses customers concern, and walks into the Parts Department to procure necessary parts.

What is your policy on side work?

In general it is not allowed if it: - Prevents the employee from fully performing the work for which they are employed; - Involves entities and/or customers seeking or currently doing business with Jim Cook CBG; - Violates the Law or other rules or policies of Jim Cook CBG.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer General Motor's Web-Based and On-Site training opportunities. We also pay for ASE Certification and Testing.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We have long standing technicians that have been with us from 10 to 42(!) years. While our techs are extremely knowledgeable, they are also reaching the end of their careers. Prospective technicians should expect plenty of work and on the job training with a easy to get along with team.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Our performance reviews are done on an "as needed" quarterly basis.

What type of safety training is required?

General Motors offers safety courses that are required for all Service personnel.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Currently, our Maintenance Shop Foreman James H. is working with our Lube Technicians to introduce more than just oil changes and tire rotations into the daily routine. Our expressed goal is to get our young up and coming technicians in the pipeline to becoming a Main Shop Master Technician.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Our facility is involved with local charities and outreach programs. Most recently, we were a top sponsor of our local "Slow Down, Move Over" event.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are currently working with our local high school and technical community college to offer an introductory technician program.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

With every bay full of vehicles and technicians.

Our application form typically takes 10-15 minutes to complete.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

A phone interview is not required but may help in certain circumstances.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

An opportunity for in person introduction for us both, and a chance to see how we operate on a daily basis. Other position details, expectations, etc are discussed.

We typically review candidates for positions as soon as possible, with most responses returned within 2-3 days.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00/year ($33.65 - $48.08/hr)

Turned Hour Rate + Bonuses

C Level Technician Pay Range: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00/year ($19.23 - $24.04/hr)

Clocked Hourly Rate + Turned Hour Bonuses

Lube Technician Pay Range: $30,000.00 - $40,000.00/year ($14.42 - $19.23/hr)
