What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

7am to 6pm Monday through Friday. 7am to 2pm Saturday. Closed Sunday

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Build it toolboxes, hose reels for air and oil, a/c and heat, all special tools and latest shop equiptment. Hunter Alignment rack and Tire mounter/balancer.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Air conditioned, cable tv, coffee maker and ice machine, multiple refrigerators and microwaves, etc

What is your parts ordering process?

Goes through our parts department. We have basic parts on hand. Techs place orders for desired parts

What is your policy on side work?

You can work on your own car or family member after working hours with a repair order created.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Brand new state of the art facility and the boss is the bomb.com!!

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes, we provide paid factory training and cross-train in both brands.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We love to promote from within! Many of our current employees advanced from entry level positions.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We do bi-annual check ins with employees to access there performance and provide any additional development plans. More importantly we coach daily to improve individual performance and overall culture.

What type of safety training is required?

We require a safety training through KPA.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Mentor program with master tech.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We love to give back to our community! 89% of Checkered Flag employees pledged a total of $197k in United Way donations for 2020. Employees volunteer their time to work on various projects like the United Way Day of Caring, can drives, Clean the Bay Day, and much more!

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We have several partnerships with local schools in the area! We give students interested in an automotive career opportunities for hands-on experience.

Becoming the best JLR shop on the east coast. A group of the highest performing advisors and technicians.

Satisfaction of our clients is at the heart of our business model, and so is our dedication to maintaining an active relationship with the greater Virginia Beach community. That’s why we’ve gotten involved and made donations to various charitable events and causes in the area. Just a few of these include the United Way, Children’s Hospital of Kings Daughters, the City of Virginia Beach, DePaul Hospital, Neptune Festival, the Checkered Flag 8K, Girl Scouts, Little League, and much more. A general conversation and discussion of mine and the employees goals. Getting to know the individual and make sure the individual knows us.

We perform background checks, drug screens, and driving record checks

yes, we do a personality index on every employee.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $100,000 - $150,000/year

We have a productivity bonus which is based on the number of “flat rate” hours (FRH) you turn during the week. To be eligible for this bonus, your personal CSI or “Fixed Right the First Time” score from latest report must be at or above National Average. In the event you turn the number of hours shown below in one work week, your flat rate for that week will be increased by the amount shown. These increased rates are retroactive to the first hour. Holiday or school weeks that reduce your work schedule to fewer than 5 days (not including Saturday) will reduce the required flag hours by 10.0 per bonus tier.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $80,000 - $120,000/year

We have a productivity bonus which is based on the number of “flat rate” hours (FRH) you turn during the week. To be eligible for this bonus, your personal CSI or “Fixed Right the First Time” score from latest report must be at or above National Average. In the event you turn the number of hours shown below in one work week, your flat rate for that week will be increased by the amount shown. These increased rates are retroactive to the first hour. C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $60,000 - $80,000/year

We have a productivity bonus which is based on the number of “flat rate” hours (FRH) you turn during the week. To be eligible for this bonus, your personal CSI or “Fixed Right the First Time” score from latest report must be at or above National Average. Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $20,000 - $30,000/year

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $100,000 - $120,000/year

Service Manager
Service Managers are responsible for management and overall health of the shop. Service Managers are typically focused on running an efficient shop that meets their financial goals. Other responsibilities can include staffing, performance evaluations, and financial analysis amongst many other responsibilities.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $14 - $19/hour

We have an apprenticeship program here where you are given the training needed for a career as a Certified Technician!
