The shop is heated, but not air conditioned.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

As the authorized Thermo King dealer in the Chicagoland area and Northwest Indiana, we have a significant number of technicians and other supporting staff that you would be working with.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our shops operate 24 hours Monday through Friday.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide specialty tools for Thermo King units and diagnostic programs on laptops.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Large break room with refrigerators, microwaves, large screen TV, water coolers, coffee makers, and vending machines.

How many bays does your shop have?

7 bays with 2 drive throughs.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We are always very busy. We perform hundreds of service orders each month.

What is your parts ordering process?

We have an extensive inventory and place weekly orders and specialty orders if needed.

What is your policy on side work?

Our policy will be explained in detail during the interview process.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Most of the training is on the job. We do have e-learning modules for certifications and continuing education.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We are an expanding business with opportunities for advancement within the company.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We hire with a 90-day probationary period. After the probationary period we do performance reviews every 6 months until Journeyman status is achieved, then a review is conducted annually.

What type of safety training is required?

We conduct forklift, crane, and hazmat training. We also hold weekly safety meetings and we are proud of our outstanding safety record.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a family-like culture of talented journeymen technitions that guide and train new hires.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We won an award for our contributions to Greater Chicago Food Depository. We also donate to various charities by purchasing products they need.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We participate in multiple career fairs throughout the year.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We do in-person interviews.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

We provide an overview of the company and review new hire responsibilities, including future roles as technicians progress.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We require background checks, drug test, and physical aptitude test.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Usually within 1 week.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

It takes 2 to 3 weeks from the time an applicant submits an application until the background and pre-employment check are complete.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $26.00 - $31.00/hour

Apprentices receive a raise every 6 months. Journeymen receive a raise yearly.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $21.00 - $26.00/hour

Apprentices receive a raise every 6 months. Journeymen receive a raise yearly.

Lube Technician Pay Range: $21.00 - $21.00/hour

Maintenance techs receive a yearly raise until they make it into our apprentice program then every 6 months they receive a raise.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $31.00 - $37.55/hour

Apprentices receive a raise every 6 months. Journeymen receive a raise annually. Journeymen that are on call get paid double time plus.
