What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

14-18 Techs, a shop foreman, 8-10 professional service advisors, a long tenured parts department, various support staff, and a director who all work together in building and supporting service operations

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday-Thursday 6am- 9pm Friday 7am-6pm Saturday 7am-4pm Shift Rotations and Weekends. We are open to creative scheduling, including but not limited to, 4 12s, Tuesday-Saturday, Early or Late shifts, flexible and part-time schedules to accommodate candidates who are still attending school

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

A full suite of OEM required tools that are inventoried and well organized, as well as specialty tools and diagnostic equipment for other make vehicles

What type of break room facility is provided?

Brake room with Microwave and Refrigerator, regular cook outs on the grill and company provided lunches, employee organized potlucks, and this shop has the unique hobby of employees collecting cooking appliances, with a pizza oven and hotdog cooker, etc. Heads up though, you'll probably need to earn your keep or donate a slushie machine before you ask to borrow that pizza oven

How many bays does your shop have?

20 ( Including 3 express bays and 2 alignment racks). Still a ton a space to grow!

What is your parts ordering process?

Our parts manager has 30 years with Honda and at our location! Fully stocked parts department with highly tenured staff who focus on the shop counter. Additionally, electronic ordering and communication through Xtime allows for faster quotes and streamlined approval and ordering process with Parts, Advisors, & customers.

What is your policy on side work?

Our processes seek to keep technicians booked at max capacity. Personal and immediate family vehicles are considered on a case-by-case basis, and at managements discretion

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Knowledgeable staff family atmosphere, multiple employees with over 30 years in at this store, even more with over 10-20 years. We started trying to calculate the average tenure here, but it made us feel old... This facility also has the unique distinction of being a historical landmark, the front of the building is the original city hall. But we are by no means stuck in the past, this is a state-of-the-art service facility that is clean and well maintained, offers covered parking, and was the first carbon neutral dealership in the country by utilizing solar panels as a large part of our power source.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer the Matrix program for our on boarding technicians and offer continued on site education.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Many flat rate Techs started in Express. Hard honest work will give many opportunities for advancement. It is common to see our technicians progress through the ranks by expanding on their skills and knowledge base and can often end up in team lead, shop foreman, and other management roles throughout our growing organization.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We strive to communicate individual feedback on a consistent and daily basis. More formal reviews can happen at 6- or 12-month intervals and review a variety of metrics including fix right the first time, CSE, tech efficiency, attitude, attendance, and other key business focuses as required

What type of safety training is required?

Training provided by manufacturer, as well as a dedicated program that focuses just on health and safety. Trainings are completed online and sometimes in-person onsite

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We consider our staff family, everyone gets involved. Entry level staff are often paired with senior members in their position for on-the-job training. We encourage skill cross training and full development/certification based on the individual's willingness and aptitude

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are locally owned and operated. Our solar panels reduce our environmental impact, and we are actively seeking out new ways to support our local communities.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We work with local schools seeking job placement, our recruiting team often attends or hosts outreach events. We enjoy supporting and participating with advisory boards at local trade schools.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

This shop has a long history of being a desirable destination that our team members call home. In the next 5 years we hope to permanently continue the expansion of our team, and think it would be great to get back to the point of running a full second shift as we have done in the past. We see our successes supporting the overall company goal of continuing to grow in locations and look forward to how that expansion can open up team members growth and development. We love to promote from within.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We have a paper app, and a online app through the website. It usually takes 10 to 15 minutes.

Yes, sometimes we do ask questions over the phone before the in person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

The candidate will go to the dealership, and meet with the Service Manager and or Manager for that position.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $87,000 - $106,000/year

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $68,000 - $87,000/year

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $68,000 - $72,000/year

Service Manager
Service Managers are responsible for management and overall health of the shop. Service Managers are typically focused on running an efficient shop that meets their financial goals. Other responsibilities can include staffing, performance evaluations, and financial analysis amongst many other responsibilities.
