Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Clean gas heaters... no dirty waste oil heaters. No A/C but we have large fans

2 Techs in Auto Shop 3 Techs in Truck Shop 1 Service Writer

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

8:00am-5:00pm (Monday-Friday) 1 Hour Lunch NO WEEKENDS!!!!

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We supply diagnostic equipment and several specialty tools. We expect the tech to have the required tools for their skill level. We do not do engine overhauls so techs would not need that type of equipment. We also have a mill and lathe along with welders

What type of break room facility is provided?

We do not have a break room per se. We have a picnic table, gas grill, microwave, and refrigerator

How many bays does your shop have?

4 bays inside the car shop, and 4-6 bays inside the truck shop depending on the size of the trucks being repaired

How many repair orders do you average per month?

80 to 100

What is your parts ordering process?

Tech hands RO TECH sheet to the service writer with parts needed in writing and he orders as needed. Parts will be received as soon as possible for tech to finish repairs

What is your policy on side work?

No side work on Grimms Automovations shop or lot. Techs are not allowed to solicit our customers for side work. (Exceptions can be made for personal or family vehicles)

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We have an open-door policy with the owner to help with work or even some personal problems. We do have a relaxed work attitude but must be professional and profit-minded

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We take advantage of any progressive classes provided by all auto/truck parts stores, BG products, snap-on equipment, and manufactures

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Education is the key ... The more tech learn, the more they can earn and can move into a more advanced tech role

Can you describe your performance review process?

We do weekly checks on hours billed out and hours paid to techs. This report is given to tech to be reviewed. The techs monthly commission sheet is reviewed and paid once a month as well

What type of safety training is required?

Tow drivers have a safety meeting once a month. We try to have general shop meetings about every 2-3 weeks to review performance, organization, and safety concerns

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Supervised hands-on training when time permits. Experienced techs will also be available to answer any questions that might come up

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We do accident training with fire and rescue, support local car events, and many fundraiser events

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

In the past we supported training classes and spoke at events

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We like to do phone screens if the candidate can't make it in. We have a light conversation to gauge the candidate's interest, and try and decide if they're going to be a good fit

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Interview is done by the owner. Discussion includes the candidates skill set, and proof of skill set through conversation. We also discuss the candidate's career goals and give them a shop tour

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We have a drug testing policy in our handbook and it may be up to the owner to see what degree of background checking is needed

Assessment is done through the hiring process and questioning during that process

A Level Technician Pay Range: $35.00 - $50.00/hour

Pay will be based on the tech's background, certifications, and skill set. We also have an up-sale commission program 10% parts and labor

B Level Technician Pay Range: $30.00 - $38.00/hour

Pay will be based on the tech's background, certifications, and skill set. We also have an up-sale commission program 10% parts and labor

C Level Technician Pay Range: $20.00 - $28.00/hour

Pay will be based on the tech's background, certifications, and skill set. We also have an up-sale commission program 10% parts and labor
