Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is both heated and air conditioned.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

All technicians work individually through a manual dispatch system. Work is dispatched to suit the strengths of each tech and to allow efficient flow through to the shop. A shop foreman is available to assist as needed.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shift times are as followed: 7:30 am to 4:30 pm 8:00 am to 5:00 pm 8:30 am to 5:30 pm

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

The shop has an organized GM special tool cabinet where tools can be checked out. You also get access to a company provided laptop and shared diagnostic tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

There are two break rooms with equipped with a freezer/fridge, coffee machine, and vending machines.

How many bays does your shop have?

2 bays per tech

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average 1,400 customer repair orders each month.

What is your parts ordering process?

Currently, techs go to the back counter and are assigned a shelf in parts where their parts will be placed when work is approved. Fast moving parts are located near the parts counter for efficient distribution.

What is your policy on side work?

Every car that enters the shop must have a repair order associated with it for liability reasons.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

The service department at Gastonia Chevrolet has a family atmosphere. We support and assist our teammates as needed. Both managers are former technicians who have grown through the ranks and have firsthand knowledge of the needs of their employees. We remain committed to our team's growth and development.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We provide our technicians with opportunities to go through paid GM training and ASE certifications. GM also has a strong bonus pay program, up to $2,000 for the most tenured technicians, paid quarterly directly to the technician.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Both of our service managers were promoted from a technician to their current leadership position. As such, we beleive strongly in developing our talent and promoting from within. We always look to promote from within rather than hire leadership from outside the organization.

Can you describe your performance review process?

The service manager and the shop foreman sit down once a year and discuss strengths, weaknesses, and overall performance with each technician. Generally, bonus plans are designed to support tech development and growth.

What type of safety training is required?

We partner with multiple online and in-person safety training providers to ensure all of our technicians are in full compliance.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We offer in-house accreditation programs for new techs working with their supervisors in order to accrue master-level skills on jobs. Unlike other dealers, your potential will not be capped at Gastonia Chevrolet. Certified GM mentors will help you win within our team.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We support multiple local non-profit agency's and school districts with an emphasis on helping students prepare for the workforce. Scott Clark Toyota is a people-oriented, family-first business committed to the success and wellbeing of its employees, staff and Community. In the past we have partnered with Union County Public Schools, Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Schools, Riley's Catch, and many more local non profits. We are not only a community business but a community partner!

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are dedicated to helping students succeed by providing an immersive internship experience within the Scott Clark Auto Group. CMS and Union County students gain access to a robust network of relationships within our dealer group. Students interested in Auto I & II are invited to participate in a semester long internship in our service department. The Scott Clark Accelerator for Leadership and Education is another example of our innovation and commitment to the Charlotte community.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Our application is easy and efficient. Once submitted, you will complete a drug screen and background check. This process typically takes around 1-2 weeks to complete.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We do not phone screen applicants.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our in-person interviews provide you the opportunity to meet with our shop foreman and/or service director. You will get to know our team, and we will get to know you. You will have an opportunity to share your skill set, and we will be able to ask about aptitude for the position you are applying for.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We require a background check and drug screening prior to hiring. Additionally you must have a valid drivers license and clean driving record.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We will assess your skill set during the interview process but there is not a formal assessment.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

The offer can be made quickly pending the required background check and drug screening.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

The process from start to end, takes no longer than 1-2 weeks after the drug screen and background check have been completed, unless there is something that needs clarification.

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $45,000 - $100,000/year

Current pay plan is a sales based pay plan. Bonuses are added in such categories as hours per repair order, total labor sales, shop hours and customer service scores.

Master Technician Pay Range: $35 - $45/hour

Diagnostic and Repairs, pay is mostly based on experience.

Express Technician Pay Range: $15 - $18/hour

$15 per hour guaranteed for 30 hours. Once 30 hours in reached, your pay then goes to $18/Flag Hour

Used Car Technician Pay Range: $20 - $26/hour

Pay is based on experience.

We offer you a choice of two medical plan options. Both plans utilize the same network of providers and include coverage if you choose to go out-of-network.
Dental Insurance Offered
Offered through Delta Dental. You have an option of two dental plans: a PPO plan, offering you in- and out-of-network coverage, and a DHMO plan, which only offers in-network benefits.
Vision Insurance Offered
Offered through Ameritas. The Ameritas Focus vision care benefits includes coverage for eye exams, standard lenses and frames, contact lenses, and discounts for laser surgery. The vision plan is built around a network of eye care providers, with better benefits at a lower cost to you when you use providers who belong to the VSP Choice network.
Retirement Plan Offered
Employees are provided with a 401 (k). We contribute $.50 to your account for every $1.00 you contribute, up to 4% of your eligible pay.
Sick Leave Offered
Offered through Voya Financial, Inc. You have the option to enroll in Voluntary Accident or Critical Illness plans through Voya. These plans pay a cash benefit directly to you if you have a covered accident or critical illness. You don’t have to be enrolled in the major medical plan to enroll, and these benefits are guaranteed issue, renewable and portable.
Vacation Offered
Regular full time employees are eligible for paid vacation that accrues overtime.
Paid Holidays Offered
5 major holidays; technicians receive eight (8) hours of holiday pay at their flat rate in effect on the holiday.
ST / LT Disability Offered
Offered through Mutual of Omaha ST- Benefits can begin on the 8th day following an accident or illness, and last for up to 12 weeks. If you are still disabled after that time, your Long-Term Disability benefits will start. LT- Benefits being following the Short-Term Disability benefits your Long-Term will begin, and will eliminate after 90 days.
Life Insurance Offered
Offered through Mutual of Omaha. Basic Life and AD&D insurance which covers $10,000. Voluntary Life and AD&D Insurance (ADDITIONAL) you have the option to purchase up to $400,000 for yourself and up to $100,000 for your spouse. Lifetime term insurance - Offered through Chubb
Uniforms Offered
Uniforms are provided to all employees with $4/week cleaning fee.
