Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Yes, the shop is heated. No A/C but the company did just invest in the big ceiling fans that make a tremendous difference in the shops.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

There are 140+ associates at the Charlotte location in the Service, Sales, and Parts departments. The service department currently consists of 29 Techs, 3 Managers, and 6 Service Advisors.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

The shop hours are 7:00am - 10:30pm, Monday - Friday and 8:00am - 4:00pm, Saturday. - 1st Shift = 7:00am - 3:30pm - 2nd Shift = 1:00pm - 10:30pm - Saturday = Techs rotate 1 Saturday every 8 weeks

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide any specialized tools needed to make repairs and are always investing in new tooling to make our techs jobs easier and more efficient. We have lifts and an overhead crane for certain repairs.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Large breakroom upstairs in lower shop with vending machines and coffee.

How many bays does your shop have?

36 bays in two shops on-site.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

This location averages 700+ repair orders per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

There is a back counter parts associate assigned to both the upper and lower shop. Techs provide ticket and parts counter pulls parts for the techs. We have a large parts department and warehouse onsite with over $3,000,000+ in inventory and daily deliveries from both Freightliner and Cummins distribution centers.

What is your policy on side work?

Ok, as long as it is not a conflict of interest working on Excel customer equipment or with a competitor.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We do all major warranty work for Freightliner, Western Star, Detroit Diesel, Allison, and Cummins. Our techs have the chance to learn a variety of manufacturer's products. They also can increase their skillset level all the way up to engine overhauling.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes, we have our own in house training department for Techs. We have a Technical Training Manager and 3 full-time trainers. They provide hands on training to our Techs on all the major components and models. We also have extensive online OEM training that Techs can engage in and receive bonuses upon completion.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Technicians starting out in our company have the opportunity to advance quickly based on their personal goals. We offer both self-paced and instructor lead training to advance their technical skillset. There are also opportunities to move into management positions or other roles within the service or parts department.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We provide an annual performance review and yearly merit increase. Managers also conduct monthly one on ones to help increase our Tech's monthly bonus potential.

What type of safety training is required?

All associates receive standard safety training during the New Hire Orientation program. Techs will receive additional hands on training in the areas of "Lockout, Tagout", forklift operation, lift operation, and overhead crane operation.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a well balanced shop of older and younger technicians. Our techs all work closely together to help build the overall knowledge of all technicians within the shop. All of our shop management at this location came off the floor as a technician and provide hands on help as well. Any new technician that is part of the Apprenticeship program will be assigned a mentor.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Yes, we are working on strengthening our relationship with Central Piedmont Community College and the local high schools that offer automotive/diesel mechanic programs. We are finalizing an Apprenticeship program that will include a training path, mentor, and tool/toolbox program to help attract interested students into the heavy duty diesel repair field.

We expect to see continuous growth in both our service and parts departments. Ownership is committed to acquiring adjacent property to expand current footprint.

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $18 - $21/hour

- Hourly pay plus monthly bonus potential - Tool Program - $3500 in tools and box

Technician Pay Range: $47,500 - $95,000/year
