Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is not heated but ventilation and porta cool units are in use and available.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

You would be working with 3 other Automotive techs, there are 5 Lube and Tire Techs in front shop.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Hours of operation are Monday through Friday 7am-5pm and Saturday 8am-2pm.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We do not provide anything but many of our techs work as a team if something is needed for you to accomplish your project.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have an area for you to take your break, fridges are available in each shop with drinks provided. You're also welcome to leave for your lunch break to take lunch.

How many bays does your shop have?

We have 2 bays in our lube and tire facility and one main door in our Auto tech shop with 4 post stations and one alignment lift.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average 130 repair appointments monthly with unscheduled repairs on average of 40 monthly.

What is your parts ordering process?

We have our shop manager that will order any parts that are needed for a specific project that you will be working with.

What is your policy on side work?

We are open to anyone bettering their selves with side projects, if anything needs to be done on company property prior ask for permission from ownership. Also with this as long as the side work does not interfere with the work needed to be accomplished here at Ernie's Tire and Automotive.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We currently do not have anything in this realm but it is being discussed for future opportunities.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We here at Ernie's have opportunities for our employees to work their way up into a management team level based upon performance and our review process.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We have a 90 day review once you begin employment and then will be assessed bi-annually through our Performance Development program.

What type of safety training is required?

We have no requirements on safety training here but encourage and enforce all safety precautions.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our techs here are all very team oriented and want the best for the company as we are only good for our customers if we are good for each other.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We service many of our local Police department and City vehicles here at our shop and love providing excellence service to our surrounding community.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We currently do not but are working with WrenchWay to help grow their visibility in our area to help the local schools.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We have experienced amazing growth in our first 6 years, we are looking to expand into a second location within 5 years, as well as expand current operations at our existing facility.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We do not have an applicant form but take resumes via our contact email or available to call our shop to inquire about opportunities at any time.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We do not pre-screen prior to our in person interviews once both parties set up a time to meet.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

We will discuss your past or current experiences, answer any questions our applicants may have, tour our shop environment, and see if we are good fits for employment.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do not have any checks for our employment process.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not have a formal assessment but inquire during the interview stage of experience and skill knowledge.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

We generally have a 2 day procedure that as a management team we will decide and let the applicant know.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

This is dependent on scheduling of an interview but on average will be a 2 week process.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $56,160.00 - $63,180.00/year

This is dependent upon level of experience and work history, also have a monthly bonus structure on quality productivity with the ability to earn much more.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $46,800.00 - $56,160.00/year

This is dependent upon level of experience and work history, also have a monthly bonus structure on quality productivity with the ability to earn much more.
